Could anyone explain to me the differences between the ubuntu,kubuntu and xubuntu linux distro's.

GNOME, KDE, and Xfce.....something like that

Ubuntu = gnome; kubuntu = KDE; xubuntu=xfce. They're the same underlying system, each using a different window manager. So you'll notice superficial differences between the distros.

If you have any doubt, choose kubuntu.

A poll on which desktop *nix users prefer would be nice. Just for interest's sake. But I think KDE should win hands down

Thanks, I'm a linux noob which system would be best to start off with as a beginner? does kubuntu have the same support etc synaptic package manager for a newbie like me or...?

Can anyone explain more of the differences regarding kde,gnome etc?
