JOHANNESBURG – The office of the Public Protector is refusing to confirm or deny whether Thuli Madonsela has been asked by cabinet to drop her investigation into Nkandla.

Madonsela has been conducting her own investigation into spending and procurement of services related to the upgrading of President Jacob Zuma's private home in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal.
The upgrades have been at the centre of controversy after it was revealed that over R200 million of state funds was used.

The Sunday Times reported on Sunday that Madonsela was twice asked to stop her investigation, but insisted she would pursue the probe.

Parliamentary Leader of the Democratic Alliance Lindiwe Mazibuko says the claims raise very serious concerns about what Zuma is willing to do to hide what happened in Nkandla.
“It is deeply improper for a minister of state to try to improperly influence her by telling her to cease her investigation. These allegations are hugely problematic, they’re not only unethical, but they could make all the ministers who participated in these meetings complicit in the scandal itself and in the attempts to cover the scandal up."

Public Works Minister Thulas Nxesi classified the report as top secret in June after it was considered by a Joint Standing Committee in Parliament behind closed doors.

Last year, he commissioned a task team from the justice and security cluster to investigate claims of irregularities in the use of public funds.

1) It wouldn't surprise me at all that they had asked her this several times already.
2) It won't surprise me if we now see more people attacking her, questioning her credibility and coming up with dirt on her.

How this woman has not been killed yet is amazing.

I was telling my husband yesterday that I am worried about her safety. I assume she knows that better than all of us and have taken the necessary precautions as far as is possible.

And the same goes for Advocate Vas Soni !!

It scares me that she must know some even more hectic stuff that is keeping her alive.

Presumably that she has incriminating information about the powers that be, and that it might get out if she were to 'unfortunately' kick the bucket.

That has never stopped anyone from assassinating an enemy before. If the incriminating evidence comes out, it will simply be discredited.

I trust she is taking precautions.

I think the only thing she can do is stay in the public eye as much as possible... Announce each and every investigation, even updates where possible. If everyone knows who's being investigated and some "accident" befalls her, 50 million South Africans know exactly where to look.

The oldest defence in the book... Attack. Sadly I agree, and this will happen more and more the closer she gets to JZ and his sycophants.

Slightly off topic, but so what if she finds irregularities? How is that going to change anything? The ANC support will still be there. Isn't it in the culture of the majority of the support accepted that the "king" can take whatever he wants and the peasants support it?
