About 4pm this afternoon, instead of my phone saying "Vodacom' it said "No Access to Network"... then after a while it changes to "Searching".

I have a Sony Ericsson V800. My self and my father both have the same phone. He also experienced the same thing. We tried turning the phones off then on again. No Difference.

Cannot make any calls at the moment. This includes Emergency and Vodacom No's. The signal strength indicator shows 3 out of 5 bars on GSM. No 3G at all.
I definate have 3G coverage where I stay.

Put my sim card in another phone and it works fine. I make calls and everything.

I've checked through the Network selection settings on the phone. It's currently set to Vodacom, but It doesn't seem to connect to the network.

Now the obvious response to this post would be "Phone Vodacom Customer Care", but how the **** do I do this If I can't make calls?
Anyone had a problem like this? A Solution?

Crash, I understand the dilemma of not being able to make a call when the phone is down, but calling the call desk is the only way you'll be able to log this call as they'll need a fair amount of info, your location at that point, etc.

Was this only on 3G? Could you make a 2G call?

Also, you said the SIM work in another phone. Can't you call 155 from that mobile?

Hi Vodacom3G

I couldn't make 2G or 3G Vid calls at all. No GPRS either.
I checked in the networks menu of the phone and set it to only use GSM.
It gives two options:
GSM Only .
GSM and 3G.

After setting the phone to GSM only, I could make 2G calls again and use GPRS.

At work now, and I've set the phone back to GSM and 3G. I'll see what happens.
It seems to be working, but I'm not sure.

About using the other phone? I phoned Vodacom Customer Care, using the other phone and was put on hold for quite a while. Kinda annoying that I have to resort to an old nokia to sort out a Sony Ericsson.

<Update> It just did it again. Worked for about 10 mins on GSM and 3G, then died.
Back to GSM Only I guess. I'll call customer service again.

After many unsuccessful calls to customer care, the problem appears to have vanished.

I've put the phone back on 3G and GSM and it seems to be working now.
I have no idea what the problem was....
