About two months ago I ordered an ADSL line from telkom and got a reference number for my order.

About 1 month ago I started asking questions why the line was not installed yet. To my suprise telkom told me that there are no order for my number on there system. So I placed the order AGAIN and again I got a reference number.

Yesterday I received a letter from telkom stating that there are no ADSL ports available for me and they cannot help me at this time. I MEAN WTF!!

I contacted a local telkom guy and he said there were only 100 ports available to start with. I live in Vryburg, and I know here are a few thousand people in town and only 100 ports available ??

I'm number 104 in line for ADSL. Why didn't Telkom see when the capasity reached about 90% that there are going to be trouble. They had to see to it that the service was available and also made it available to furture orders.

Who, where and how can I lay a complaint against telkom.

I tried to contact them, but they always say I must call another number. I emailed Telkom and they said I must contact the ADSL department. I tried to email them, but the mail is returned as no such email adress is found ?!?

Can someone help me with the number of somebody high up, so I can see if I can get something out of him!!!

Thanks

I fell your pain buddy, been waiting forever for them just to come and repair a "faulty cable" just go to hellopeter?

Me too, got the letter and everything as well. It was luckily sorted out within a month of the originally intended installation time though.

This has just happenned to me too.

I applied for ADSL 19 months ago, september 2009. I live in Edenvale in Jhb, not in deepest darkest Africa, so it's bizarre that there is such a lack of infrastructure :wtf:

Anyway about 2 weeks ago eventually they install brand new exchanges, DSLAMs and a fibre back bone into the area, and the Telkom guy is in the house to do the install. after he install the line he tests everything and reports it's working. So I ask him what the ADSL line speed will be able to handle to which he replies that it's just a Telkom line, ADSL is not activated on the line and I would have to apply for ADSL seperately.

He said that the area can handle full speed 10mbps, but his work order didn't say anything about ADSL for my install, so he cannot activate it at the exchange as Telkom needs to assign a port to me first. However he just did it for my neighbour, and there is 2 ports used of the available 500. So I just need to apply and he'll come and do it when I can give him a reference number. So I apply, get a reference number. and nothing happens. Phone the guy, he says Telkom has not assigned a port to me yet. Phone Telkom, everyday, for the past two weeks to try and speed things up. Yesterday some woman tells me the reason I have not been assigned a port yet is because there is no available ports left for my area? WTF? How is this possible in a brand new area with brand new infrastructure?

This company is having me pull my hair out in frustration. How can it be this difficult to get connected in this day and age we live in?

I also applied over the phone a week ago and they told me the service is available and should be running in 7 to 10 days. So a few days later I filled in the progress request on their website and got a mail back saying that my reference number is invalid and doesn't exist.
After replying with my telkom number I was told that there are no available ports at my exchange and I should take it up with my nearest Telkom shop.
I live in Pretoria east, not far from Menlyn and am surrounded by embassies and businesses, who I think all must be using ADSL. I mean, there is definitely a huge market in my area for working ADSL so why are there no ports!!!?
It seems like Telkom as a company is incapable of thinking ahead in cases like this., if there is growing demand then why the hell do they not make sure that an X amount of ports are at least available at any given time?
I am a new customer of them and trust me when I say it wouldn't be the case if I had any other choice.

Just go with 8ta or one of those 3G specials while you are waiting.

Ok, so I just found out that it's going to take around 40 days for them to get more ports available.
For the hell of it I also entered a few numbers I know of friends and offices across Gauteng, more than half of the 8 numbers I entered have infrastructure issues, meaning no ports are available. Telkom is really a poor excuse for a communications company. It just shows poor management on there side and a complete lack of governance.
