So my mom phoned and her PC is showing this. I checked the boot priority and it's on HDD.

So what's the next step to get in? :(

In many of these cases the boot priority has fixed the error, but not this time

Ask her any clicking sounds (assuming its spinning rust).
If SSD - those are more prone to total failure.

I'd suggest make a bootable usb of an OS, boot into it, and see if the drive(s) are visible.

In the past booting off a Windows USB and doing the whole fixmbr routine usually fixes this.

It's an SSD.

Was fine one minute. And error the next

OK... So I'll have to pop over. I was hoping something that could be done over the phone :)

What make is it, if I may ask?

I've had the one in the pic below for almost 10 years already. I also have 2 Samsung 500 gig ssds - one is about 5 years old. They have really treated me well (touching wood as I type this). Q

Which OS?

Maybe you can try restoring the MBR or boot partition. The bios might also got corrupted, uefi vs legacy boot etc.The SSD might also be fooked worse case scenario.

It's a Kingston - probably 4 or 5 years old.

She's got a really old machine with a spinning 1TB - so thought I'd do her a favour and give her my old SSD only a year back. Now she's going to think if I just left her old spinning disc, it'd have been better. hehe

Windows 10.

What is UEFI and Legacy ?

She did a video chat last night to show the options and was on Legacy.

So I got the PC with me... I created a USB and set to boot. It started up nicely and I clicked repair - only to get the below.

Now everytime I boot from USB I get this

Looks like the USB may be corrupt.

Also, how did you create the USB? If via Rufus, then secure bit must be switched off in the BIOS.

I think the drive is toast :/

But I went here >>> https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 (Create Windows 10 installation media)

I make the USB and plug it into the broken PC - boot up ... but as soon as I say 'Start up' repair, I get the screen above. I took it back to the new, formatted and created a new USB - but the same thing happens and I get that screen
