hi having probs with my old pc ...its a amd 2000+ with 1.5gig ram and a entry level graphics card...i sent it to matrix to reload xp etc cos it was crashing all the time...anyways the matrix dude reinstalled xp and it worked fine! i took it home and it didnt pick up the hdd or anything for that matter...yes i know what you thinking the wiring in my house must be faulty or something or i need a new psu....BUT i took it to work and the same problem ! so im beginning to think it's the OS thats faulty cos the guy loaded it from a disk that to me didnt look original (but hey i could be wrong...he works for matrix and i dont know a whole lot about pc's just yet) so could it be that the os he is loading is faulty ? or could it just be that my hdd is going...it is quite old now..not too sure how old but more than 5 years...or could it just be the graphics card? problem is that if i take out the graphics card then i cant plug in the monitor because the input for the monitor is on the back of the graphics card! it has a custom gaming box and the mobo doesnt have the usual plug-in for the monitor... any suggestions ?

oh yeah btw here's the exact specs :

Geforce 4 4400 Titanium 128 Mg
AMD Athlon 2000+
1.5 Gig DDR 400 Ram
40 Gig ide Hard drive
Gaming Case With Thermaltake LED Fans
Sony DVD Rom
LG CD Writer

and i had the guy re-load xp about 3 times now...something always goes wrong...either it goes really slow or it doesnt always pick up the hdd ...i think his instal disk is faulty or something and he has me paying him al the time to fix the same problem...he keeps saying that the pc is fine so he'll just re-instal the OS...

I suggest you go find a friend in your area with knowledge of computers and ask him to check out your harddrive... maybe the techie at Matrix messed up.
Is your HDD connected with two cables? (one 4-wire cable (power) and one broad grey cable (data))??

yes it is....this guy has been working on my pc for about a month now and everytime he brings it back something goes wrong...i can see that everything is installed correctly but i still dont trust him after last week ....i noticed that my ram dimms was swaped...i had transend and kingston dimm and he replaced them with some other cheap brand...i told him about it and he said it was his error ..he changed them around while testing my pc and forgot to put them back...BuLL$!t if you ask me ! ....

I suggest you talk to his boss and tell him this guy's been breaking/stealing your computer parts... and definitely not go anywhere near him again...
