Here we go again, I have been reconnected yesterday, and now I am were I was last week - nothing works but HTTP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So there is not 64 Kbits cap, there is nothing!

I am getting sick of it! I had proper internet for 4 days in 2 weeks since I have iBurst!!! It either does not work for anything but browsing, or it does not work at all because somebody decided to pull the plug for no real reason!

Anybody else in my situation?

Anybody else having problems with all the apps but HTTP?

I haven’t had any technical problems today and I’m successfully logged into my servers with SSH. Sorry dude, don’t know what else to say to you. I can only speculate as to what is causing these problems on your connection. I haven’t reached my CAP so I’m not throttled. Maybe you should contact WBS and ask them to give higher priority to SSL/SSH on throttled connections.

I will try that hex.... shot, but im doubtful on them been able to do that..

The problem is not that it is slow, neither that it does not connect at all (most of the time). It just drops the connection few moments after one connects. The same problem as last week, and I was not throttled then. So it is some crap that WBS did again after the yesterdays mess. I am sure of it!

Hey,

my ssh and MSN and irc are working fine, i also havent reached my c(R)ap yet,

although sending attachments with emails stuffs up sometimes, have to resend about 2/3 times.

I had precisely the same problem last week. I would connect. Press the ENTER key three times and would lose connection. My SSL also would not work at all (even though my HTTP was fine – no indication of bandwidth problems). I then contacted TradePage (my reseller) and asked them to handle the matter on my behalf. I haven’t had a problem since (and hope it will stay that way)

If the iburst system works the same way that ADSL works with Telkom, they use bandwidth management tools to ensure that their obligations are met - this means that the services and limits they are contracually bound to will receive the bulk of their bandwidth.

Once you reach your cap, they will place you in a pool of users whose bandwidth is also capped. As this pool of users grows, the contention-ratio increases which effectively means that there are more users trying to use the same bandwidth, which in turn means that the throttled service gets slower each day till the 1st when everyone gets a clean slate.

The applications which are 'non-optimised' (which is everything except http and e-mail if you have a 1GB limit) are most likely contending with the capped users. Which would mean that all the other services will get slower as the month progresses.

If you read the blurb it says that you will be capped to 64kb for services other than the optimised services, which means a maximum of 64kb. It will be less if there are too many users contending for the same bandwidth. Now that they have re-instated all the suspended users, the contention ratio just went up again, so all the non-optimised services will be much slower again today.

Which might explain why, but does not solve anyone's problem at all :-(

Stone_Prince, you probably did not read my message properly! I do not have speed problems or anything like that! HTTP is working just fine, no problem at all!
I am capped, and my understanding from their advertising is that when you are capped you get 64 Kbps speed for everything, no matter if it is HTTP, ICQ, MSN, SSH or P2P, so this is what I expect.

I want 64 Kbps that I can use as I wish! Not just for HTTP, I did not sign anything saying that I can use my internet connection only for web browsing, because if this was the case, this should not be advertised as internet connection, but as a parody of such!

Internet is a medium, ISP are entitled to restrict speed and monthly usage, as this are parameters on the physical connection and they should control them as stated in the contract. They must not try tell you what to use your connection for! If they try to restrict intentionaly my right to use my internet connection for whatever I wish, I WILL SETUP HTTP DOWNLOADS 24x7 just for the sake of wasting their bandwith!!!!

So, anyone else havng the same problem like me at the present???

Swordfish, I did read your message, I just didn't read between the lines. You didn't actually say that you had been capped, but I should have worked that out from the fact the you have been reconnected.

What the website says (and they won't let you copy and paste it!!! https://secure.wbs.co.za/cfusion/wbs/subscriberaccountsignup/packages.cfm ) is that you will receive a maximum of 64K for all other services (what 'other' services are depends on your package). Which to me looks exactly like a parody of an internet connection.

This might mean that when you get throttled, you get less than the 64k on all those other services, maybe in the same ratio which applied before? I'm just speculating here, trying to understand what they are actually doing, which I think is important if you want to get them to change the way they are doing things.

The one thing that all the entry level broadband offerings have in common (other than dissatisfied users) is that they give preference to certain protocols, and the more you are prepared to pay, the less protocols that will be restricted.

Yeah + you might not download, I cant download anything and ive not reached my cap. I think WBS base station might have virus on bored or something. Since I cant download or do nothing.

I'm going to go to another base station for the night maybe I see improvements

Stone_prince, I think their explanation is quite open to interpretation, my understanding is that everything will be restricted to 64 Kbps after the cap is reached, and everything but HTTP and the other listed as "optimised" protocols will not be restricted only before the cap is reached. So to make thing simpler for me, I really don't give a **** about the cap, and I want bloody 64 Kbps permanent internet connection that I can use for whatever I feel like, simple as that!

Well, when it works, I have no problem with the speed, as all I am expecting is 64 Kbps, the disconnection I am getting are nothing to do with the speed of the the link.

I was working on a 56 Kbps modem until 2 weeks ago, and I have not changed my internet usage pattern since then, so if their connection was performing as a permanently connected modem connection I would have been perfectly happy, but the reallity is that the iBurst is inferior compared to cheap old modem, and I am wasting my money for lots of unreliable bullsh1t, and before anyone asks, I am having 100% signal all the time, so it is not technical problem, it is the fat ass pigs that run this pathetic company!
