For some reason, I tried to log onto google this morning from my phone, waited 5 minutes at the *Connecting...* screen, disonnected, and recevied a "0 bytes received" message.

I then downloaded and installed the settings, yet with no change.

Normally it's fine :|

Is this just me... ?

Virgin Mobile :)

Had the prob for 3 hours - It just mysteriously started working...

Oh well, might just be one of "bumps" :)

Happens sometimes. I just disconnect and re-connect 5 minutes later. Normally works for me.

I used Virgin some time ago. It was great for a month or two, but then it started disconnecting me every 5 minutes. Like I said it was some time ago. Reading the posts it seems that it is not getting better... Don't know how you guys find it?

it used to work fine for me as well BUT lately it's been very chaotic, disconnects every 5 mins, it's basically useless on download 20mb or bigger because it bombs out. still the cheapest option for browsing though.

I think it's just giving connection problems on third party apps like opera, mxit, etc, because the default phone browser works perfectly fine.

Buying a data bundle from MTN/Vodacom is cheaper if you browse a lot on your phone, like I do. It is also a whole lot faster!

was good while it lasted

When I first joined VM a few months ago I was impressed by there customer care service and data but then about 2 months later it went downhill. Constant disconnections and staff saying that the data network is fine yet no one in my area could connect for several days

Their internet service is anything but fine. It would be very interesting if we could get a Virgin representive on the forums.

Seems socket connection apps are a no-no somehow, so switching all apps to http connections seems to be the solution for now.

this problem happens quite often. I also find that when you are unable to connect you have to switch to http. On sunday i was having the same problem however i had to first connect via http then change to socket in opera mini

And HTTP chows data in chat applications like Nimbuzz and MXit.
