At around 1:15pm today, my Internet connectivity died completely. The ADSL sync line is steady, so it's not a problem with the DSLAM, and I get assigned an IP no problem. However, DNS lookups fails, I cannot ping, nothing. Tried different DNS servers, tried an IS account (I'm on Axxess) - no go.

Phoned Telkom, and they said SAIX is having an ADSL problem at the moment, affecting all SAIX connected ADSL ISPs. They did not know what the exact problem was, nor any indication of when it would be resolved.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Sucks being back on dial-up!

Spoke too soon - it's up again. Ain't Murphy's Law great?

Still, I'd love to know what the issue was.

I hgave had a few pple tell me that their connectivity is up and down ... and apparently now 3PM telkom is having problems in the greater Jhb area

There is definitly a problem, I am on the 384 dsl. According to the Telkom speed test;

Your line speed is approximately 54.7 Kbps or 6.7 kBytes/sec

Yes, very slow browsing in the greater JHB area, approx ISDN 128 speeds.

Yes there was a problem. Our connection at work went down, and minutes later most of our clients started phoning. Some didn't have any problems though.

I would have thought that certain areas or certain parts of the grid be affected. But what was strange is that one of our clients, who are in the same building as us, didn't have any problem at all.

Went down this side as well - looks like an authentication/software/server problem. Most propably server cut-over or dslams joining the strikes.

According to SAIX, it was a "faulty module". Which could mean a lot of things. But yeah..
