No jail for Vlok

Really sets a dangerous precedent, if I go and "try" and kill some1 and plead guilty to it will I get a suspended sentance?

Honest Gov. I'll be good this time.

No, he went: `It's a fair cop Guv, you've got me bang to rights, you 'ave. It was me what done it and I deserve to go down. Now give me your other foot to wash.'

Makes you wonder why they even went through the trouble though. I doubt there's much that a criminal conviction will hinder Vlok.

Doesn't it have some implications for foreign travel? I seem to remember that on some visa application forms they ask if you have ever been convicted for any criminal offence.

True. I guess then his under country arrest. Hope he won't miss those air miles too much.

Yea true.

He wanted to go and Sun bath in Hawaii naked :D

I'm guessing the state realized that what the media and other parties have been saying about prosecuting everyone or no-one is a valid point, so they decided to deal in order to firstly save face, and secondly set a presidence they can live with if forced to prosecute themselves.

...could be, or it could've been a plea bargain.

Never thought of it that way but would tend to agree. Although I doubt any ANC member will ever have any charge brought against them for these crimes.

is the current government involved in aparthied style killings?

is the current government involved in aparthied style killings?

One could argue that they have been criminally negligent considering the state of the department of health alone.

I think though that we are talking about atrocities commited during the apartheid era... and in that case they definitely were involve in killings

is the current government involved in aparthied style killings?

The current government was part of the freedom struggle, and at the time many of the ministers and officials where either directly or indirectly involved in what could be described as terrorist activity, including bombings, land mines and many farm killings.

these people are just as guilty of committing crimes as there apartheid era counterparts are, under the concept of truth and reconciliation this country decided to forgive both sides for the atrocities *both* sides committed during this time.

if one side is to now be judged and criminally charged with actions taken during what was arguably a war, then both sides should be treated equally. yes killing innocent black people was bad, but no more so than planting landmines and killing innocent white people, or planting bombs in fast food outlets where you knew there would be children.

The struggle *is* over, and apartheid *is* gone, it was decided to heal the country by forgiving rather than blaming.
