No load shedding this winter: Eskom

You in the West rand, power failure going on for quite awhile now and the 14th time in a month and a half. You know sinking cables makes the area look nice, but maybe they should start putting the power cables back on poles, out of reach of these retards who steal the cables.

We in Honeydew Manor area and our power has been out since 1am on Monday morning!! Still out this morning.

It seems like some people are demanding back their load shedding. Maybe Eskom erred.........

No people don't want loadshedding back, they just frustrated that there are endless problems. In one month there were 300+ reported power failures in Johannesburg, some going on for 3+ days.

Hopefully most people in Joburg take this into account next time they visit a voting station.

Yes, a lot of people seem to think a power failure due to bad municipal infrastrutuce is "load shedding". Guess they couldn't be bothered to understand the difference.

While Eskom deserve some credit for improving power station performance and maintenance, I think it is very foolish to go around boasting that there will be no loadshedding ever again. Eskom have no idea what the true demand for electricity is, due to years of load curtailment. Add to the fact that last year's winter was mild and a colder winter is expected, and they might get a sudden cold spell out of nowhere. Couple to this with an unpredictable catastrophic failure in some large power plant and there is still a medium chance of loadshedding. Perhaps not every day for months, but now and then during a perfect storm.

Then they will just look like absolute fools. We are not out of the woods yet.

The demise in the platinum and mining industries, have take a lot of pressure off of the grid. This is allowing us to catch up with maintenance etc. Sudden cold weather is not going to cause load shedding again.
