Agree with SlinkyMike
I must say, I have to agree with SlinkyMike...
I love Linux and I am certainly trying to convert fully from being reliant on Windows to running (almost) purely Linux... I have started porting all of my Windows only software to ANSI C++ so that I can compile in Linux...
Even so, I am not exactly a power user of Linux, just your average schmo developer, and certain things I find really hard, like getting printer drivers for older printers.
I haven't had the same experience with 200mb downloads everyday. In fact, I never download patches because I figure if it aint broke, don't fix it. I'd hate a situation like MS where the updates make your machine unusable.
Having said all that, I've really only ever tried Mandriva 2009.x and Suse, but I think if you read what Slinky said, he never said Linux is bad, he just said its not quite ready for the masses. Consider that 99% of us on this forum are techies of some sort so it might not be that obvious to us, but try getting your mother / father / spouse to run a Linux system...
Anyway, I guess if you consider the alternative (Vista or 7) then Linux is looking better and better...
