MyWireless connection was turned off today, although it was supposed to only disconnect on Tuesday 30th midnight, considering I'd paid up until then.

It was disconnected this morning just as the Hellkom dude arrived to install my line - talk about perfect timing.

So, I'm now with Hellkom on the 384 connection and it goes like a rocket when compared to MyCareless - up to 40kb/s download speeds, perfect streaming audio and video, lightining fast surfing.

3 gig cap is the main fly in the ointment, but MyCareLess 128k connection had gone so slow and cruddy, actually downloading more than 3gig in a month would've been an achievement !

[:D]

If ADSL is available in your area, it's 5000 times better than MyCareless, so I wouldn't hesistate for a moment to can your MyCareLess and hook up with ADSL. Of course, I'll have to wait till I get my first bill to see if it is actually R751 per month all inclusive with Telkom as my ISP [;)]

... and of course see what happens when the cap expires ... [xx(]

hey... nice one bb_matt... more bandwidth for us :p
But I envy your fast speeds....

Pop in to the forum once in a while... to find out the latest Sentech saga.

myWireless 128, 64, 48, 16 - depends on its mood.

I'll definately be doing that !

Yeah, the speeds are rocking, but watching the cap is going to be the tricky bit.
I'm spoiling myself silly today, tommorrow and tuesday as I've got 3gig to get through.
Busy steaming a DSL feed of Groove Salad on WinAmp while surfing - very cool.
Been watching streaming video on BBC and am going to pick some choice things to download while sleeping.

Next month is the true test of the CAP and whether I can make it work for me. From experience reaching the CAP at work, it's damn horrifying to surf international - virtually impossible in fact. Going to try to limit myself to 50meg a day normal surfing and use the rest for downloading.

That's of course the one downside of ADSL over here

I also got the 384 package like a month or so 2 months or so back, its like fiber compared to sentech's 'broadband' ...
The cap pretty much screws anything international, even a small thing like logging into steam struggles. I use a vpn connection to company VPN for my international browsing etc so it works like a charm for me :)

I've heard it's real easy to just phone to get another account to get another 3gig for R200 - that's why I went 4 the 384 as adding another 3gig if needed brings it up to more or less the same as the 512 :)

I've still gotta find a method of connecting if my cap expires and I can't afford more GIGS - I set up squid on a server I had access to for the work ADSL line - hehe - sneaky sneaky - but that server is no longer alas !

I know what I can do for a "quick fix" - my Hetzner account has 3.5gig a month traffic and I rarely go through more than 1gig, so I'm sure there's a little PERL app out there that I can setup just for those emergency surfing requirements - something like an anonymous surfing app.

bb_matt,

My experience with 384 Home ADSL...
Mostly speed wise no comparison with MyWireloss...before cap 39Kbps constantly, pings to US and UK around 250-450ms (effected by shaping?), local pings 30-60ms. After cap int bw is zero, I use my company VPN for international after cap. After cap local seems no different.

BUT on the first 2-3 days of a new month, bw sucks (not like Sentech sucks, but sucky nonetheless!) as everybody screws their cap. The last 2 days of the month are similar but not quite as bad (as people make sure that they get their money's worth of 3G).
