No More SABC for Zimbabwe

Sentech has scrambled SABC's television channels in Zimbabwe, Business Day reported on Wednesday.

The switching-off of the three SABC free-to-air channels meant Zimbabweans now could only view state broadcaster, the Zimbabwean Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), the paper reported.

According to the report, the High Court in Johannesburg had ordered signal carrier Sentech to encrypt the signal last year.

This was after eTV's subsidiary eBotswana requested the same court to scramble the signal in 2011, to curb growing broadcast piracy in the region.

Business Day said Sentech could not be reached for comment at the time of going to press.

They still pay for SABC because it can only be viewed via dstv decoders, and without subscribing, the channels cannot be viewed.

That's not what I said though. As a nation, they are overly reliant on charity IMO- there was no apportioning of blame as to why. But at least we both agree that there is no such thing as democracy in Zimbabwe...

I live in Namibia just 10km north of the SA border, a lot of the houses here have DSTV, but next to the SAt Dish is the traditional long pole, with an aerial pointing to Alexander Bay in the Northern Cape to pick up the SA Channels, I assume this will be a thing of the past for them also....

ok wait.. so the only way they have SABC is by having DSTV already? Then would they not be getting CNN, Sky news and all the other news channels that are part of the DSTV bouquet?
