Hi guys,

what happen with the speed issues? Looking these days at the forum, it seems that no one complains anymore. No slow speed, can't connect etc.?
Is that the case?
Just curious!

I am planing to go for it (MyWireless) soon, and I would like to have an idea what to expect.

What happen with the speed & service quality survey?

Actaully MOST of us have given up ... and the rest probably are experiencing such bad speeds that they cannot get here

hehehe <-- actually not funny at all

The day mywirelessssucks.co.za is taken down, you'll know the service is back up again.

Well my day time speeds are ok, getting about 6K at the moment, which is actually acceptable during the day compared to how bad it has been of late. Last night i was seeing speeds up to 20K which was great. Still not like the full 32K i was getting for the first two months of this dis-service. I have no doubt if i wait for a few days i will be back with 3K (day) and 10K (night)

Cant understand why the forum is so quiet, have we over bitched ???

Would it be possible for you to mail (off the forum) some of the regulars on the forum (like me) i.o.w dependable for speed ratings and set up a procedure where we can (privately) vote or something. Then you can indicate a 24 hour suck ratio based on the counter. Each vote must be only done once and only by a validated user. The idea being that the rating will be distributed better than just your situation. Plus I firmly believe it should not be based on a test of any kind. I for one, know exactly when it is slow and when not. Just a thought..

I also got a call yesterday about the speed referring to ticker 3843 or something (at least one 3) and the ticket I opened on sunday was 5849 (or something like that). This is weird to me. So in effect, I have 2 open tickets. Even this ticketing system is messed up.

When everyone else had speed problems mine was still ok. Now I have speed problems and it feels like everyone else's speed is ok ;)

I seem to be getting quite a consistent speed of about 10K - 14K. I'm on the 128KB package. So far no speed problems, just a connection problem once or twice a week. Nothing a reset of the modem won't sort out. I connect to station 36 in bedfordview, perhaps there aren't that many users in my area yet, and thats why I'm not having any problems.

Telkom who?

Well, I am waiting for the Orcs to phone back (they actually did so yesterday). Apparently there is a problem for those people that connect via the Ethernet connection, but via the USB connection speeds should be fine. Last night I tried USB for a while, initally it was okay (10K-ish) but then dropped to an alltime low of 7.80kbps (256k package). So, I am back on my Ethernet connection.

He mumbled something about MTU(?) sizes being wrong on their side and that there is a meeting today wrt it. And they will action (oooh, sounded so big companyish) a fix and get back with a date.

Mmm, we'll see, otherwise my speed spam is going to start up again real soon now.

More lies. There are widespread speed problems for people with USB too. The MTU story also sounds very fishy to me.

Excellent idea. I've thought of doing something like that. Will work on implementing a simplish, vote/my speed indication system.

Swordfish: I think we're all just really bitched out. When the service doesn't suck anymore, you'll know about it.

All I know, until I changed my MTU, my speeds were crap and some sites I could not even down load. Having done quite a bit of research, the MTU does have an impact if you are on 2000 or xp. I am not talking about the MTU on your LAN.

Passif - please could you provide me with any info you received relating to the ethernet cable issues - I'd like to investivate this further ( I have a few ;-) ...

The MTU "issue" on MyWireless is a client-side configuration thing and also occurs with normal Internet Connection Sharing. It has nothing to do with what's going on in Sentech's network itself, that's why we say that the suggestion from a support person that Sentech are looking at fixing an "MTU problem" within their network sounds bogus, even though, yes, incorrect MTU settings on a *customer's machine* can cause problems. It sounds more likely that the support person muttered something about MTUs because (a) it sounded technical and (b) he could give the impression they were going to do something about it and that it may fix the speed problems (but without committing to actually *saying* it would fix the speed problems, because in fact it won't).

Well, Tuesday night and speed problems on Brixton are definitely back: I am getting 30 - 40 kbps again, after reaching an all-week high of between 80 - 100 kbps Sunday night and Monday.

What will I do with my time when MyWireless finally gives me a consistent 128 kbps and I am not doing so many speed tests? [;)]

Interestingly, I had a decent call from support. I was caught unaware so I forgot to get his name. Anyways he said I must monitor the speed for a week and update the ticket next week if there are any speed hassles. So he wasnt in a hurry to close my ticket. This is the kind of thing I like to see

I just called and the guy I spoke to told me he was unaware of speed issues on the network during the past two months, when I asked then how long he's worked at Sentech he told me "Longer than you have had your modem ...". Where the hell do they get these guys?
