Hi. I live in Pietermaritzburg and I have a Android driven phone. Over the last few weeks I experience that my phone keeps changing to Telkom-R (Roaming on Vodacom), often even when I am in an area where there is Telkom signal. At the top of my Phone, where it normally says TelkomSA, it then says TelkomSA-R (Data Connection only) and I can't make or receive any calls. I have a business and go out to customers in different areas all day and am starting to loose business and money and have some very frustrated customers complaining they can't get hold of me. Even when I am back in an area with strong Telkom Signal, it won't automatically switch back and I have to manually select Telkomsa 3G. Is Telkom aware of this problem? Anyone else experiencing the same problem?

I had the same issue when Telkom changed to roaming with Vodacom.

I lodged a cancellation request on their website and received a call back from their retentions/cancellation department wanting to know why I want to cancel my contract. Explained the situation that I could not make or receive calls when connected to TelkomSA-R. They lodged a ticket with their technical department. About a week later the problem disappeared. No idea what their technical department did but I can now make and receive calls when connected to TelkomSA-R.

If that doesn't work, you can disable roaming by following the steps in the link above. You could also manually connect to the vodacom network by going into the connection settings on your phone.

Vodacom not supporting Voice on 4G?

Stick to 3G then.

We live and work close to Hartbeespoort Dam, just 30km outside Pretoria - on a plot, close to everything, though.
Since the Vodacom Roaming Partner switch, we have had TERRIBLE problems with our coverage.
There are no landlines in our particular area - no Fibre either - so we were forced to only have LTE Wifi for internet and only mobile phones.
The connection was fine, all worked great - and then came July 2019...
Our internet was so slow that we could not work - NO upload speed, so even sending e-mails was out of the question - and since we are tax consultants and in July the tax submission period begins, it was an unmitigated disaster.
I reported it, was told 20 working days... still not resolved after that, logged case again, and the internet was fixed - after A WHOLE MONTH OF NO INTERNET.
Since then, the constant "Out of Bundle" messages started, having to reset routers five or six times a day, etc.
Logged another case.
Then the mobile phone coverage basically went - still cannot really make calls - and have no idea how many we
are not receiving from clients - logged another case, but Telkom could not reach us - BECAUSE THE PHONE DOES NOT WORK - so they just closed the case.
I checked up on the last logged case - and it was re-opened. But still the phone does not work, and we are receiving suspiciously few e-mails...
This is well on the road to totally killing off our business - I don't know what to do anymore?
Have done everything the technician told me to do, also blocked the TelkomSA-R network (found in this forum),
and still nothing.
What must we do? I am at my wit's end... Surely the recorded greeting when one calls Telkom Business Mobile that ends with "should you be outside Telkom or Vodacom coverage areas, your service will unfortunately not work. We apologise for any inconvenience caused" is totally unacceptable? We have numerous cellphone and data contracts,
which we pay over R 3.000 per month for - how on Earth can they tell you, in essence, that it's just tough luck if your service doesn't work anymore????

Anyone have such extreme problems? Any ideas on how to resolve this?
I just went through a TWO YEAR battle with Telkom to get them to cancel our landline switchboard contract and
take their equipment back - we moved here more than two years ago and obviously could not use a landline switchboard and voice contracts without any landlines... First it took months to put our main office landline number onto a simcard (Virtual landline) - and then they cancelled that number because they linked it to the
Telkom Fixed Line account (which we stopped paying) - and BOOM! There went 50% of our clientele - and income.
Nobody could find us!! I have a thick file with the correspondence - and only when MyBroadband posted an article with the NATIONAL consumer helpline for Telkom for cancellations did I have any luck - a SUPER lady in that department had the issue sorted for me in a matter of weeks - they wrote back the R 65.000- that they wanted us to pay for the remainder of the fixed contract period, took their equipment back and it was sorted.
BUT - after TWO years, we are now left with about a third of our original clientele, are struggling very much financially and now the totaL MOBILE STUFF-UP.
We do not have the money or time to take this to court - since Telkom basically ruined us financially, one should not let this slide - everyone always does, that's why this country is in such a mess!!!

Maybe time to team up for all of us with such experiences and fight back... that is, if I don't have a heart attack and/ or nervous breakdown soon....
PLEASE HELP - anyone with advice or any contacts one could try - or ANY type of solution... we are desperate...
