No Nougat updates for Snapdragon 801

It appears that any device utilising the Snapdragon 800/801 would not be getting any Android 7 Nougat updates. It appears that this is not due to any manufacturers unwillingness but requirements set by Google for Android 7.0: They demand that devices cleared to run this OS must be able to do hi-speed 64 bit encryption that the Snapdragon 800-801 are not capable of doing. So no device with these chips would be certified to run Nougat.
Devices handicapped by this includes the Sony Z2/Z3, Samsung S5, HTC one (e8), LG G3, Xiaomi mi4, Google Nexus 5 and Motorola Moto X (2014)
I think Google is being ridiculous and preventing some good devices from getting their update.

According to the HTC-focused mobile developer LlabTooFer, who has provided several HTC-related tips in the past, Android 7.0 Nougat update will not be officially released for the HTC One M8 or other devices running the Snapdragon 800 or Snapdragon 801 CPUs because Qualcomm has not made corresponding graphics drivers for the new Vulkan API is present in the latest version of Android to improve gaming performance.

Not encryption, but graphics drivers. The Vulkan API requires 64bit support, which the Snapdragon 800/801 do not have.
The fault lies with the hardware drivers, not the software. Go talk with Qualcomm.

I don't agree, this was one of the excuses doing the rounds but Snapdragon made a statement that this is not the case. Vulkan is not a prerequisite for Android 7.0 but Google want's the 64 bit encryption capabilities. Bottom line, as you stated : the 800/801 would not be officially certified.

CM 14 is Nougat, and the OnePlus One is listed as receiving it. And the OPO has a Snapdragon 801.

Those devices are two years old. What do you expect? Custom roms will take care of it anyway.

That's why people are upset .... Some are not yet, mine will be in December. Besides the Snapdragon 410 will get the update but the 801 is more than twice as fast

Yes, many 800/801 and pre 800/801 devices will get it unofficially, but they will half baked as the devs can't get those drivers in, Qualcomm have to.

OpenGL ES3.1 support is the requirement, thats why Snapdragon805 devices aren't affected.

All I want is quick switching. Don't care about encryption standards.

Many devices, like my Huawei P8 lite, have quick switching between last 2 opened/accessed apps.

I know, but I use CM and it doesn't have it as far as I know. OnePlus's own OxygenOS has it and it's readily available for all OnePlus devices. Maybe I should consider using it instead.

This is kind of sad, since the Wileyfox Swift is just a year old and it's out of the running for Android Nougat and it seems, so is the Wileyfox Storm as well. :(

My Galaxy S2 on CM13 had it. Think it was under Buttons. I could change all three button long press actions (although physical buttons).

Just checked and I don't see the option. Although I'm using on-screen buttons and not the physical ones. Also, quick switch is a double tap and not a long press.

Wileyfox runs Cyanogen though, so sure they will update it?
