"BlackBerry 6 is scheduled to be first introduced to the market with the BlackBerry Torch on August 12, but I know many of you are also wondering about support for existing BlackBerry smartphones. I am happy to report that BlackBerry 6 will be available in the months ahead (pending carrier certifications) on some of our leading smartphones, including the BlackBerry® Pearl™ 3G 9100, BlackBerry® Bold™ 9650 and BlackBerry® Bold™ 9700." - Mike Lazaridis - CEO of RIM

I don't see any of the curves mentioned there either so I'm wondering how definitive a list it is.

I heard the new OS is really ram intensive and it might still even struggle with the 9700 and storm as its ram is 256 and not 512 like the torch would be. Don't know if those are facts or just rumours, but my source is the crackberry forums

Yes I believe this is true, the other devices might get a watered down version of os6 in the future but not the full version. They're also limiting it to new devices only: I think I read the Storm 2 was extremely problematic with os6 which is why it's being excluded.

The 9000 barely runs OS5; no way will it run OS6. It has only 128MB RAM.

From video's Ive seen, OS 6.0 running on non touch screen devices uses less memory than on the touch screen devices (thats why OS 6.0 is not coming out for the storm 2). Max memory requirements for OS 6.0 on non touch screen is 180mb... OS 6.0 also seems a lot snappier on the non touch screen devices.

Do you know for a fact it is being excluded?

I REALLY hope they include it!

Verizon has been rumoured to have canned OS 6.0 testing on the Storm 2 due to memory:

RIM also does not mention the storm 2 in this post either:

Post mentioning the lower memory requirements on non touch screen devices:

I have zero issues with OS5 on my 9000.

Interesting. I had under 20MB memory available, and that was after removing a whole bunch of apps. As I used apps, etc., memory would rop, and under 15MB it would start locking up for a while.
