Hi guys,
Basic problem: My PC doesn't pass the post during start-up with my new GPU (PowerColor HD7870 Myst).
Detailed explanation of my problem:
I got the PowerColor HD7870 Myst about 2 weeks ago. First I tested it on my PC and it didn't work, figured it could be my bad PSU. So, I sent the card back to get tested (since I couldn't), the card was working fine on their systems, and I got myself a new PSU (Antec Neo Eco 620C, 80+ Bronze). During the 2 week period and now I'm running of my iGPU from my Intel G850. That leads me to think that my components, such as CPU, RAM, and HDDs are working fine. Previously I had a MSI GTS450 running in my PC, with no problems. I sold that card already.
Running from my iGPU my system posts (1 beep) and I can go into Windows. Running from a (very old) Forsa GeForce 8500GT the system also runs fine. Running from the PowerColor HD7870 Myst, no post, no beep, PC turns on, fans spinning, HDDs spinning, GPU fan spinning, no signal on screen.
I read a lot of forum discussion on the net, a lot of people have the same problem, some get solved, some don't. I tried all the solutions given.
PC specs:
- Intel G850
- MSI PH61A-P35 (B3)
- 2x2GB 1333mhz Patriot Performance RAM
- (New) Antec Neo Eco 620C, 80+ Bronze certified, 48A on 12V rail, also has 2x 6+2 PCIe connectors
- 2x Seagate (500GB + 2TB) HDDs
- GPU: PowerColor HD7870 Tahiti LE Myst Edition (requires 2 PCIe 6pin connectors, which the new PSU have)
Why the low specs for my Mobo and CPU? Let's just say Joburg took it.... I'm keeping the budget components until Haswell release. PC should work fine with these specs.
What I did so far:
1) Tested the different display outputs (HDMI and DVI) on my TV, current screen and another screen, still no signal.
2) Tested with other GPU in my Mobo, worked fine.
3) Tried different RAM sticks, still same problem with new GPU installed
4) Tried a PCIe 6 pin split to 2x Molex connector, with a PCIe 6 pin connector from PSU
5) Updated the BIOS
6) Reset the BIOS (Battery out for more than 10 min. no power connected; also with jumper on the Mobo)
7) Reseated everything
8) Updated BIOS again
9) Uninstalled all old Nvidea drivers from PC (don't think this will have anything to do with it, since the PC doesn't even post).
10) Checked the BIOS, it's set to auto-detect GPU (PEG if I remember correctly)
11) Didn't try a hammer.... yet
I use MSI Live Update for the BIOS update. What I did realize is that not all BIOS updates reset, like my VGA drivers. How do I completely reset the BIOS, bearing in mind I already did all the physical jumper and battery reset?
All power to CPU, Mobo, and GPU are connected. GPU does work on supplier PCs; CPU fine; RAM fine; Other GPU works. The only thing I think it could be, is my Mobo not compatible with the GPU, however, all the specs indicates it should.
On another note: I'll probably need to get another Mobo. Found the MSI H77MA-G43 at Purple Fly for R830, are they reliable (Purple Fly)? Any other suggestions on budget Mobo?
All help and suggestions will be much appreciated!
