No phone. Do I still need POTS?

Hi,

I have a phone line that was connected when I moved into my flat. It has not been activated and I don't use it at all.

I want to get an ADSL connection but I am not signing a contract with Hellkom. I understand I would then need to buy the modem and the POTS filters myself.

Because I don't have a phone and won't use one do I still need to get the POTS filters?

no, u wnt need the pots filter if u nt gna use the fone.
even wen u disconnect ur modem, u cn jus plug ur telephone in ur line n it'll work without the filter. the filter is only if u gna use the fne line n data line at the same time!

Now to convince Hellkom that I don't need them to install anything for me.

Apparently there is a self install option. Wonder how much effort that would be?

AFAIK the self install option is not available yet

its available in some areas.
jus contact telkom and speak to em. self install is jus a matter of putting in ur own POTS filter (which u nt gna use n if u r gna use it, its simple to put in) and maybe a splitter to ur existing telephone jack. which is really simple to put in.
no wiring, or anything (unless u wna run a extension)
