Hi guys, my husband bought me a second hand Sony Vaio yesterday. However, when I went online to watch Youtube videos, I discovered there's no sound. Something is clearly wrong, as there is no startup tone either.

The OS is Windows 7, can anyone guide me through the process of fixing this problem? I tried downloading drivers but no luck. Maybe I'm not doing it right. Can you perhaps give me a direct link to something that will work? This is all very confusing to me.

Any help will be MUCH appreciated!

By the way, model is Sony Vaio VGN- TX27GP.

You need to get specific drivers for your specific model of soundcard in your specific vaio. Look in Device Manager. You should find the sound card and the driver missing or non-functional. You can get a device id from it and google that.

Else try Windows Update.

Thanks for responding!

Under Device Manager I clicked on Sound, Video and Game controllers.
Under that is just one item thing listed, that is, Realtek High Definition Audio speakers.
Tried updating the drivers for this by making Windows search online, and got a message saying : Windows has determined the drivers are up to date.

Where exactly will I find the sound card id?

try Function (fn) F2 on a sony vaio for the mute button
can you see the speaker icon in the taskbar?

fron right of chassis, between the wireless lan switch and the physical voilume buttons is the ...mute button...

Lol, my computer is not on mute, I checked.

This specific model is designed for Windows XP or Windows Vista. I got it with Windows 7 installed. Could this be the problem?
