Hi,

had an account problem and called 10210.

After many minutes of music and adverts for useless overpriced products, a person identifying himself as "Joseph" answered.

I asked him for his Telkom employee number, and he claimed that he does not have one.

I don't know what is reality: Was he merely avoiding future trouble, or does Telkom not provide helldesk operators with employee numbers?

Or did they outsource even the call centre?

i think they give reference numbers 4 everything. and jus gettin the persons name is gud enuff. once u quote ur ref number, it'll hav all the logs.

The staff, in the 1023 sections and other possible helpdesk solutions all had employee numbers when I was employed by the company. Each permanent employee (even students) are issued with an ID card that contains a photo, your ID number and your Telkom employee number, more commonly referred to as your "salary ref" The card is your ticket to getting into Telkom buildings.

However it is likely that some Telkom employees are not permanent staff. Telkom's payroll systems require an allocated employee number or else you cannot get paid. As always I will investigate...
