I upgraded to fastest beginning of June. Got my bill today and was shocked to discover I owe them R1600 instead of my usual R500 odd invoice.

There are two entries simply labeled ' General adjustment' with no date for R477 each. After a call to their call center I was told it's installation fees :D Yeah right, had DSL for ages now. I was told she will investigate and call me back later. Lets see what happens.

Installation fees! AFAIK they enable the higher port speed by typing a few key strokes!

Hopefully it will be reversed. Actually not....you will have to pay but will probably get a credit. Thats the way they work!

ja, I thought it was free to upgrade, but there was a charge to downgrade?

could also be the advance payment for the next month that they're billing you?

Was free for me going from 384 to 4 meg, took like 30 minutes, after an hour on the phone though, so like 90 minutes ;)

would b interested to know how many gigs do you have per month in your new contract?

Its free when you upgrade or downgrade - I asked this week at Telkom Shop. Only time they charge you is when you cancel your adsl with them.

I know when I went to 4mb, they charged me part of the previous month as well. My monthly bill is around R700-00, incl of calls and line rental. I have to say, they have always been helpful to me, and I am sure there must be a mistake.

They might be helpful some of the time, but they do have a strict policy of pay the invoice when it is due and they'll "investigate". This means if you don't pay they will suspend service and not investigate until you paid them what is "due" ;)
