Cape Town - The ANC should not embarrass itself by deploying public servants who loafed around, its national executive committee member Mathole Motshekga said on Friday.
He said the Zuma administration would not tolerate individuals who drove fancy cars and lived luxurious lifestyles while communities lived in abject poverty.
The statement was made in a speech prepared for delivery at the ANC's Chris Hani regional conference in the Eastern Cape.
"We must not embarrass ourselves and our movement by deploying incompetent individuals who will derail service delivery," he said.
"The time for public servants to loaf around and expect huge salary increases and million of rands in bonuses is over."
Motshekga urged that as the local government elections in 2011 drew closer, the party had to show that it had credible leaders in its ranks.
He also warned that the party should guard against those who saw election to executive positions in the ANC as a ticket to self-enrichment.
