hey, does any1 know what might be causing this or how to go about fixing it ?

my noise margin is usually sitting over 20db which is good...
but its slowly starts to drop down to 6 then router loses connection when it regains connection its back up to 15-20 or so.
the speed at which it drops is totally random, sometimes every min other times every few hours.
had several things checked out:
router wasn't the problem
the line wasn't the problem
had some corrosion on the cable points around the house that was fixed up ( thought this would fix the problem for sure)

but it still persists :S

haaaaaaalp any1 plz ?

(the only traffic going through the router is from wow + vent usually)

What else is currently plugged in on the same line? Fax machines.. etc? Have you tried removing all of those + any filters etc to see if that helps with the noise problem?

yup, never helped :S

any viruses or something that would cause ur noise margin to drop ?

I'm currently having the same problem.

When I press the phone to my ear, I can hear a faint dial-up modem sounding noise while my router is trying to reconnect. Can this really be my router? I thought you shouldn't be able to hear the thing. I have all the line filters and everything properly in place. Is it possible for lightning to have damaged the POTs filter?

Yep. Lost about 4 filters in recent years due to lightning.

OK so how does the telephone line work then? Why doesn't my neighbors non-ADSL line need to be filtered from me? Arn't we on the same phone line on the street? If there is some sort of Filter outside on the pole, then can't that be damaged by lightning as well? Maybe that's what happened to u, I4gy :(
