Noisy laptop fan

I have a Dell Latitude D510 - it's about 3.5 years old, but it's still working fine and I'm happy with it.

The annoying thing is that the fan is getting very noisy. It's fine for a few minutes after first switching it on, then it starts rattling and making a noise as it spins. I know there are apps out there that let you control the fan speed, but I don't think it's that the fan is coming on unnecessarily - it should be on, it's just making too much noise as it spins.

I looked into getting access to the fan to clean it off, in case it's gotten dusty and that's hampering the spin, but you have to take the keyboard off, disconnect the display, and take the entire palm rest off just to get to the fan. I've tried dusting it with a soft brush through the vents on the bottom of the laptop, but it didn't particularly help. And while I could probably just get a new fan, I don't fancy taking my laptop apart just to replace it (I don't know why they can't make it more accessible!)

Any suggestions of what I can do to reduce the noise? How much would Dell charge to change the fan for me?
 
Try blowing it out - use clean dry air as is supplied in an aerosol designed for this purpose. Getting to the fan may be a mission as lapptops do not disassemble easily.

This is like Deja Vu.

I also have a 3.5 yr old d510 with a noisy fan.
The laptop still works well as u say.

where can u buy this "magic air in a can"?

Try giving it a blast or two with canned air (beware of compressor air such as the kind you get from the petrol station - it's often full of moisture).

You might want to stick a match stick through the vent to stop the fan from spinning.
