Nokia 5800 an iPhone killer?

It has 8GB card in the box.

I like that "The poor mans iPhone"
But imo any phone that doesnt have the touch screen response of the iPhone cannot be an iPhone killer.

Bet those scratches referred to were just lines cut through the smudges made by fingers.

Had the same "problem" with mine- I thought I had scratched the screen on the first day. With a wipe, all the "scratches" disappear. I am carfeul to make sure U have a clean screen/stylus before swiping it or my fingers across the screen. At R5k, I am stoked with my wolfsheep:D

Good to see nothing has killed the iphone yet :)

Nice try though, maybe next time!

Ja. Perhaps if the iPhone had flash, and Symbian OS, 3.2MP + flash, it would have been close.

I like Garmin on my 5800, don't like the idea of Gmaps...

The iPhone does kill it in the sexyness department, though.

To be honest i had the IPhone on trial for a few weeks from Vodacom Business, and although it is definately sexy and responsive, the poor battery life just killed it! With my nokia 5800 i can use it as a GPS (Garmin), surf the net, Fring my brother every second day, check the weather, send MMS's, Synchronise with exchange server and the battery still lasts 3 days + Not to mention the occasional song playing and video playing... Now if only i could find a good stereo bluetooth headset for gym that doesnt cost an arm and a leg and i can get rid of my Ipod Touch :)

So rouxenater was wrong the 5800 did not live up to his expectations... :p
no surprise there...

And why is there no USB charge? that is a major fail considering that you'll be syncing with a PC almost daily in most cases.

USB charging is really no biggie.

I'd rather use it as a phone/mp3 player, than a PC accessory.

I think it's a technical issue, though. USB2.0 can supply 3.0V or something like that - so the phone must require something more...

The battery is quite something, after 7 days of use (MP3s, Internet, calls), I still have 2 bars left.. So it could be that the battery may be too big to be charged by a USB port.

Perhaps some technical guys could explain it...

Just the idea of the 5800 even being compared to the iPhone let's us see how good the 5800 really is.

I mean, for the price difference the 5800 is definately the best buy of the two.

It really is - whenever I'm on the road the fewer cables I have to lug about the better and if I lose one they're ubiquitous.

Apple is only half way there - their cable fits into a usb port and the little power supply can be used to charge other usb devices but losing one of the data cables is a pain too.

How is that fewer cables?

I've got a car charger - the same one charges my iphone, ipods, blackberry, and gps via USB cable.

I'm not following your reference to charging the iPhone with a car radio however.

Had a car charger for the iPhone since last year already so don't know what the issue is.

..and the comment about changing the iPhone OS for Symbian - oh please
.

Just bought a Nokia 5800 for R 3800 from MTN. The fackers at Vodacom wants R 4700 plus and they don't have stock.

Some radios come with a usb port. Can use that to charge your iPhone.

Wrt OSX for Symbian or visa versa - there's nothing wrong with OSX, I never said there was.

I prefer Symbian. That's all.
