NOKIA 5800 Tips Tricks & Apps Thread.....

Is the hard reset Red + Green + Camera Button while powering UP?

Yep. Hard reset my phone for the first time last night. Set everything up again, running much quicker.

Also, never had any noticeable problems with the 8GB card.

Now I want to change the product code using the family's windows computer. Will read up about it, but anyone have a streamlined process to share or an indication of how long it will take?

A dumb question but why would you want to change the product code of the phone? is there any benefits?

Here is a good guide: www.nottinghamjazz.co.uk/blog/?p=66
Just a note or two. I think it only works on xp and if it asks don't let the firewall keep blocking the application. And it's very quick a minute or two. the longest part is downloading the appropriate software. ;) Works great and you won't regret it. changed mine the day i got the phone.

Changing the product code allows you to get the latest firmware long before it is approved and branded by vodacom or other service providers. Thus your phone will also be without the service provider branding. Not that the 5800 has a lot of that but certainly if you are on vodacom it's the way to go if you want the latest firmware.

F*&kING HELL.

Tried to do a hard reset using the RED + GREEN + CAMERA Button but nothing happens

I did the *#7370# reset, worked fine but after a while now the shortcuts bar is blank. If I touch where the buttons normally are, red squares appaear but disappear wfter. Also the dialer and contacts can't be accessed when tapping the buttons at the bottom.

Restored from Backups with Nokia PC Suite, but home screen is still the same i.e. shortcuts bar blank and contact/dialer can't be accessed.

I don't know what to do. Going to take it back to those retards tomorrow.

Got the Hard Reset to work (RED + GREEN + CAMERA Button while starting up)

Restored from Back Up. Home screen is back. Everything seems fine for now. Will see how it goes.

Question :
Why do I get a memory full message on my 5800, I have nothing saved on it. This happens every now and then, intermittent !!!! If I switch the phone off and on its ok again.

Make sure that u are using the memory cards memory and not the phones memory.

I had that before. It happened when I did a restore of my settings.

I fixed it by formatting the memory card and doing a hard reset. Redid all my settings myself instead of restoring.

I've gone without a reset for 2 months now. Getting withdrawal symptoms though... :D

remy, i'm busy downloading the software on the windows computer now. I have found a site with all the different product codes, but not sure which one to use.

which product code should I use? My phone is red.

Even if I only hard reset (no restore) it still does that.

Format your memory card before your next hard reset. It seems your problem is there. Remember to make good back up on your own not using nokia transfer since that will back up and restore your problem as well. To format memory card:
File Manager > E: Memory Card > Options > Memory Card Options > Format

I've hard reset, then formatted Memory Card and Hard Reset again. No Restore at all. Installing Opera Mini and Email.

Will See what happens.

Pull the SD card out, stick it in your PC and do a full format, then do a CHKDSK

I've already started. Will try that if it's still screwed.

I'm also using an N97 mini. Opera Mini uses the 3G connection automatically. Anyone know how to change this? The Default web browser and email is set to ask first, Destinations (under Settings) is set as my wifi first, internet.gprs as second (both ask first).

EURO 2 RED is most used
Ended up using Euro 1 red i.e. 0558982.

Updated both 5800s. The one was still on v21 - was a bitch to get it to work. Took a few hard resets just to get JAF to read its values. After that it didn't want to stay connected to the computer long enough for the updater to find it.

Happy I went through the trouble tho... the phone is muuuuuuuuuuuch faster now. :)

Good to hear, normally when it won't stay connected it has to do with either PC Sync or OVI Suite still running
