NOKIA 5800 Tips Tricks & Apps Thread.....

I also forgot to add that now my accelerometer does not work well (i have to shake the phone).

Correct about the accelerometer. It's now very obstinate in changing orientation in certain applications. Also, the kinetic scrolling sometimes gets in the way of selecting applications. Other than that, I think it's fine.

yip, only problem i've also noticed is the accelerometer....
not cool having to shake it to get it too switch orientation....

Actually, I must admit (now that I'm reading the posts again) that I have the same issue with orientation - takes longer than before, and seems to wait until you're really sure. I got used to it though, and in some ways it's better (doesn't do it by mistake any more).

Agreed, I sometimes experience the same. Sometimes even have to try 3 or 4 times to get a folder to open. Annoying.

I think they tried to foolproof it against minor movement, but went a bit too far. I've found that if it becomes obstinate, it works to simply move it back to the orientation that it currently shows, and then turn it in the direction I want it. But keep the phone's screen 90* to the ground, it helps.

Just upgraded to 50.0.005, but not after a few annoyances with Nokia Software Updater. It said the software update was ~150MB, but when it got to that amount downloaded, it just carried on and on... I had to restart my PC, because you can't kill that up once it's started. Tried it again and had the same problem. Googled it briefly and read about someone else having the same issue. They then did an OTA update which worked fine. I tried that and it worked without any issues. Thank goodness for uncapped ADSL. ;-)

IIRC you'll want to try a "hard reset", instructions should be in this thread, or google it. Try updating using the usb connection and the software updater, it's far more reliable.
P.s. I had to upgrade from v2 to v4 before I had the option to go up to v5.

Thanks for your reply......I first need to get the phone to switch on and I tried the hard reset already even removed the memory card and battery.....no luck.
OK, this 5800 is still under the 7 day Out Of Box Failure warranty....anyway that I claim a new handset?

Take it back and kick up a stink if you must!
Don't take no for an answer and they'll eventually just want to appease you and get you outta there.

Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated!

Updated to the latest firmware (OTA) last night. While installing my phone gave the following message: "System Error". Install finished and phone is running fine. No loss of data either. I guess I should be worried but I'm really not :).

I'd also suggest backing up to mem card and doing a hard reset, then restoring just your crucial data, i found it to kinda iron out any strange anomalies/kinks.
Phone is flying now.

Has anyone else had the problem of not being able to use the 5800's as modems now? either with USB cable or bluetooth?
There's another thread on this.

Wondering if a hard reset will sort this out...
