Anyone have the same problem?

My 5800 froze for the third time since I have it. Then when I restart it it wont go past the white screen with Nokia on it.

If I take out the memory card it boots perfectly. So there must be a problem with the memory card.

Try a reset.

Take the mem card out, leave the sim in and at the dial type in *, 'hash', 7370, 'hash'.

This performs a total reformat of the phones ROM. YOU WILL LOSE ALL PERSONAL DATA ON THE PHONE !!

I had problems with the phone restarting - so I did this and all is good now.

If this still doesn't work then back to Nokia you go...

What memory card are you using? Did you install the latest firmware?
Keep in mind the 5800 is very much a "beta" product at this stage.
There is a lot of bugs in it both hardware and software wise.

Beta product..? Hardware bugs..? Software I understand but the rest sounds like an incomplete product the way you explain it.

I think what he means, is that it is Nokia's first full-touch phone.
So naturally, there is much to improve..

Still - problems I have no more..

:D

Had endless problems with mine in the 3 days I had it. Took it back to shop- swapped no questions. Now all is well. Just make sure you "safely remove" the card. Press power button, last option. The thing seems a little delicate. 8GB on something that small is cool, but not worth the hassels it seems.

I understand.....but don't forget Roux is a super Nokia fanboi after all :D

Yeah I love Nokia and Symbian so I am not bashing here. But the competition is stiff out there. The hardware bug I am reffering to is not actually Nokia's fault, it is the speaker that goes bust in humid conditions. The unit in quiestion comes from Sony and they have fixed it and 5800s are nou shipping with the fixed version. I'll wait a while before I get my 5800 :p

You may have to wait another 3 months...

Well, 'till current stock runs out, anyway.

The memory card was preloaded with apps, video's and pics.

lol then clearly formatting would not be the solution...

possibly its just the memory card is one of a bad batch?

or could actually be the phone's software that needs to be upgraded..

my little sister has a moto em325 and her phone didnt even want to boot up with the memory card in it. boots fine when there's no card but wont start up with the memory card. we took phone in (minus the memory card) had the software upgraded and works quite fine now..

the problem started about a week after she got the phone so i think somehow something got corrupted software wise..

Well it could be that Motorolas generally suck anyway..

this is correct. but it's a good phone for two teenage girls, 1.3MP camera, blue tooth, Mxit capable, music player and 1GB card for less than R1000.. it was the cheapest phone out there with those features.. trust me i went looking all over and couldnt find a better deal..
