Hi guys.

Im having a problem with my Nokia 6110 recently.

I get a solid HSDPA or 3G connection without problems but the second I open any site containing images or video I lose my connection.

Tests revealed that once my connection reaches around 500kb in download I get dropped.

Funny thing is my MSN still stays connected and the PC Suite One Touch Access still shows my connection as active.

Any ideas what could cause this.

Im on contract with a 1gig data bundle.

Connecting via USB cable

Deleted and recreated all my connections on the PC

OS is Vista Business on my laptop with a T7200 CPU and 2gigs of ram.

Hope this helps.

Im starting to lose my mind with this as I need to reconnect every 10 minutes to keep working / browsing.

This happens from time to time. Especially in the evenings.
Don't change your settings, try later.
This happens to me quite often. I have a f@stlink modem and what works is to to lock it on Edge. I don't think you can do this on the 6110.

Make sure you have your 6110 on dual mode, not UMTS, otherwise it will likely drop the connection when 3G/3.5G signal gets too low. have this problem with VC

Did a factory format on the phone and set to either dual mode or umts yields the same failure

Phone downloads at up to 140kb/s and then drop dead. Connection claims its active yet the download hovers at around 0.2kb/s

do a firmware upgrade , i think the latest version is V4.XXXXX

What you downloading at 140kb/s and is it a local download ?

Not sure what it was.

Ill check the firmware update thanks.

Still having problems with this.

Tried different APNs etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc.

MTN branch at Northgate claims its a coverage problem... Somehow I doubt this.

Anybody else have any idea what causes this?

Maybe try it on a different machine and check to see if the problem persists.

Maybe also try in a different location - might be a weak signal.

I also have a 6110 on MTN and also have a similar problem: I connect and after a while the connection stops responding but the PC still shows the connection. I found it to be worse when on 3G, but it has happened on EDGE as well.

To set 6110 to EDGE: settings - phone - network;

I found a nice 'fix' for my problem the other day to recussitate the connection.

When the connection goes dead I launch fring on my phone (I reckon any application that uses package data connection will also do the trick) and then the connection responds again on my PC ??

When I connect to my phone using Bluetooth the problem is the worst, USB is much better but it still happens now and then. I have the latest Firmware so that isn't the problem for me. I couldn't test 3G from Vodacom since I have no signal; the VC gprs signal never disconnects though

Sent my phone in for repairs a month ago. Im convinced its a hardware problem but MTN insisted on doing a software upgrade.

Im also now missing the cover on the rear of the slide that says GPS. Great upgrade MTN

Data problems continue. I can now connect but the 3G HSDPA EDGE switching is horrbile. Its NOT my laptop and its NOT the area im in. Its this phone.

MTN is doing its best to screw me over. This after being a loyal subscriber for 10 years +-

So much for having a 1gig data bundle when you can't use any of it. Major waste of money.

I presume you are using a prepaid SIM. If you are, then at times no web pages will open although it shows that you are connected.
Are you on prepaid?

So your problem lies with your phone not your SIM.

Contract with a 1gig data bundle.

Hi

Def sounds like an issue with the handset or laptop. PM me details, maybe you can come in with your laptop and handset and I can have a look. (Considering you went to Northgate, which is not far from MTN Head Office)

I also used a 6110 Nav as a modem at one stage, Never had this issue.
