Does anybody have info / details about the possibility to use the 6680's 3G/EDGE/GPRS from a Linux system? Specifically IPCop / FC3?

6680 w. bluetooth under Linux

I'm using my 6680 with bluetooth as my main after hours Internet access with my laptop and Mandrake 10.0. I'm going to have to write up what I did one of these days as there seems to be a lot of questions about using Linux with the 6680.

Basically, once you get rfcomm-over-bluetooth working, then it's a simple dialup connection...I use KPPP. I installed the Bluez bluetooth stack & Bluez-utils. I have a USB bluetooth dongle I bought from AutoPage, seems to be a broadcom chkpset. I've been told that pretty much all USB bluetooth stuff "just works". The only hassle I had was getting the pincode to work for the connection/pairing my laptop & phone. The helper script that is supposed to prompt you for a pin under X didn't seem to work on my box. I just replaced it with a script that spit out a fixed PIN, something like

#!/bin/sh
echo "PIN:1234"

will do it.

So far I've used it for about 2 months -- mostly on GPRS, because that's what there is in town, but I've used 3G when travelling. It's pretty good...I'm still looking at the issues that affect overall responsiveness.

That'll be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks for the starting pointing, I'll see what I can find on Fedora (and then IPCOP). Upgraded my old 16k SIM to 64k SIM, suddenly couldn't connect through phone and BT, had to redo a bit and then got going...

BTW, I have the MSI BToes USB dongle (from Nashua) and still have USB 1 on desktop PC, connection icon in Windoze (from PC Suite One Touch Access) shows 115.2 Kbps.

Any help / suggestions, please?

I keep on getting LCP terminated by peer a second or two after PAP authentication succeeded on using Nokia 6680 over bluetooth for GPRS. FC3 box and I used the GUI network interface for the setup and activation (after rfcomm bind ...), then get the following in /var/log/messages. Had to use a dummy username and password else it would fail, I suspect it might be something to do with wvdial.conf:

[BTW, the IP that gets assigned is the address of my machine's domain (VPS hosted in the UK), not the machine's local IP, which is obviously private. The private net is just an extension of the public domain...]
