nokia 6680 Italk cellular

Thanks MTNHandsets! That is indeed good news :)

Iceman, I don't doubt for a second that their service is under par; this after all is the typical quality of service from South African business', I am definitely not trying to cover up for iTalk, I was just confirming that the phone was in fact out of stock and that the phones were -NOT- called back due to problems as mentioned earlier in the thread.

Luckily I have not experienced any problems with NashuaMobile during my two years of use, but then again I have never had to make use of their customer support (where the problems usually occur).

Definitely a good move to go with MTNSP!

Hi I just received my 6680 excellent phone. Does anybody know how to set up IM on the 6680.
Instant Messaging is a network feature and can only be used if supported by your operator. The same goes for presence enabled services or Push To Talk (PTT or PoC).

Hey Ya'll
The 6680 has some cool features you can unlock with some added 3rd party software. You can browse and edit all MS Office Documents with all formats intact
You can receive and send faxes with full image view and manipulation (Rotate etc)
Mail me if you want more details...
I have learned that the guys at Nokia don't know a damn thing (that would be the guys here in SA) they kept telling me that all these features were ONLY available on the Commnunicators. Just made me more determined.

Most operating systems provide the basics (whether on a phone, a pc or any other device) ... 3rd party software can enhance the product ... but as I found on my communicators over the years, and most of the time the really useful (and stable) ones come at a pretty hefty price. (Price, naturally, is only a determinant if you believe in legal software.)

iTalk and SE

Can MTNhandset dude, please explain to me why we (MTN users) have only nokia and a few other rubbish brands to pick from, I am a huge Sony Ericsson man, and would like to get hold of the new K750i...

But iTalk and most other MTN SP dont supply them, whats up with that.

I would change to VC in a heartbeat, but because of the mission when you have had a 083 number for, lets see, 6yrs now... Im going to have to stick it out, all I want is a SE K750i or better, im not asking much, its not like im asking for Telkom to give out free ADSL lines, its a freakin' phone...

Crappy Handsets

I agree with thedudeman. I have been trying to obtain a handset I want for the past month or two, but due to the lack of features, I am forced to stay with my current phone and use GPRS. Although, I do understand that tests need to be performed on the network before the phones are released. I have also been a loyal customer of MTN, but feel they seem to be losing some ground with Vodacom releasing newer handsets, at the same time it is also MTN SP's that are to be blamed, as they make obtaining a handset, like the Nokia9500 impossible for me to achieve, I am not willing to spend R1800.00 on a handset and my contract subscription.

MTN, please come to the party, I have also been trying to obtain a 3G test card that I would like to test for my users on our VPN, but cannot seem to get this right as well.

Most NEW phones and mainly 3G handset will be available on Vodacom 1st because Vodafone have sign deals with handset manufactures to allow them to have certain phone models for them and some models will have exclusivity for a short period

...see this is what I was talking about. That's plain retarded!!! Somebody please remind me what century we're in? And you get a website now?

Anyway I'm done with those retards and my contract was approved a few days ago by MTN SP :) I'm now very very patiently waiting for my 6680 to arrive...

MTNHandsets, now that you guys have stock will it still take longer than a week to get the phone considering all that admin has been approved?

Can anyone who's got the phone please let us know what the package comes with / does not.

I am rather fed up now. I currently have a contract with NashuaMobile and was afforded the opportunity to upgrade. I did so on the 2nd of this month and I still have not received the phone. When MTNHandsets posted on the 10th saying that there was stock in their warehouse I checked again with NM and they had also received stock, I still had to wait as it had to be "cleared" first... then yesterday I find out they are again out of stock... rather sad actually.

Iceman, this is what Nokia's site reckons is included in the package:

Sales Package Contents
Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone
64MB MultiMediaCard (MMC) MU-1*
Adapter for normal size MMC slots
Nokia Stereo Headset HDS-3 (HS-3 in APAC)
Nokia Battery BL-5C
Nokia Travel Charger ACP-12
Nokia Connectivity Cable (USB) DKU-2
CD-ROM containing software
User guide, Quick Start guide, and Add-on Application guide

Really?

We currently have stock available of the 6680 in the MTN warehouse. Any SP that orders directly from the MTN warehouse should be able to get stock right now.
Going on my 4th weak (yes I can spell that) since my application without any sign of a new 6680 and just got of the phone with MTNSP Sunninghill where I applied. Tamy there tells me the stock controller at MTN told her that they do not have any stock. With all due respect, does anyone have the faintest as to what's really going on?

MTNHandsets, can you please spread some light around this?

Hi,

Scandium, Iceman_13 - if possible please PM me the detail of the people you are dealing with and I will let them know that we do have stock available.

I just got a call from Tamy at MTNSP, Sunninghill. She says that MTN told her that they "just ordered 500 6680s" and they will receive them on Friday and that hopefully 1 will arrive at MTNSP Sunnignhill on Saturday for me. "Hopefully"?

MTNHandsets, is it possible that MTN "just ordered" some phones now? Would you be so kind as to point out why there are so so so many differant stories in this business.

I really am totally content, albeit a little sceptical, to wait further until Saturday but would really appreciate some input...

thanks
sheldon
