Nokia 7230 has 3G that doesn't work

i got a Nokia 7230 with 3G at the beginning of the yeah. The problem is that it just won't use 3G but rather flip between EDGE and GPRS. I'd say i'm in a territory where 3G isn't available but there's a Nokia E63 in my house on MTN with 3G that work's perfectly. Please help...

check under network mode, maybe its set to gsm only and not dual mode

9 times out of 10 it is the SIM card, not the phone. First check that

that too if you have a 16k or les simcard you won't get 3G you should have at least a 32k sim card
