Nokia 9500 and Edge

I've been offered a Nokia 9500. I am primarily interested in this phone due to the PDA-like abilities, and the fact that it supports Edge.

Upon getting home, I was pleased to see "Yello Broadband" on the display. However, I only had about 50% signal. After dialling up, I noticed that it had switched towers, and was no longer displaying those sweet two words.

My question is, am I able to change towers with this phone? If you're going to say "Use NetMonitor", then it would appear that there is no support for the 9500 as yet. Do I have any other options?
 
AFAIK, Yellow Broadband is only displayed half the time. So maybe it didn't switch?

Otherwise if it did switch, the trick is to find a spot around the pc where the EDGE tower's signal is always the strongest one, then it shouldn't switch over
 
The "Yello Broadband" display alternates with area info and the different types of phones also display the cell broadcasts in different ways and at different times. It also differs whether you are dialed up or just "idling".

So you probably are still on EDGE in that area. Look at your street level map on

If you are surrounded by EDGE and let's say about 3 km from any "plain" GPRS you should be OK.
 
Thanks for the replies. However, I am pretty certain that it is simply a case of being connected to a non-Edge enabled tower. Speed tests show that I am getting strictly GPRS speeds at home. In fact, my K750i scored slightly higher than the 9500.

And no matter where I stand in the house, it is always connected to that specific tower (Ivory Park), presumably due to the strong signal.

Yeah, I thought about that. Actually, that's my "friend's" house, and I am asking on "behalf" of my friend. :P

Fixed. There, now I can sleep at night.
