nokia ca-101D micro usb cable

I lost that ridiculously short cable that came with my E72 which had forced me to leave my phone on the floor whenever I wanted to connect it to my PC. With the genuine cable at over R300 I decided to search a bit. I've now bought two 1.8m "Micro-USB B to USB A" cables for R29 + VAT each. I'm using one at home and will keep the other at work. Seems to be fully compatible and charging my phone at this moment. :)

Try to pick them up from one of the local offices of Otto Marketing, or buy a couple of things to defray the transport costs. It was going to cost about R150 for two cables including Fedex delivery. Actually not so bad, but I rather saved that R85 delivery fee considering I was not even certain that a generic cable would work.

Yep, cheapie usb extension cables work 100%. Charges, launches pc suite everything.

I have the Nokia E52 and when using the Nokia ca-101 cable I find that it only transfers data, it does not recharge the phone's battery when it is connected to my laptop, I believe the correct cable for data transfer and charging capability is the Nokia ca-126.

Nokia MicroUSB data cable CA-101D

I think I was mistaken when giving this thread a title. I just looked it up and the original cable was the "Nokia MicroUSB data cable CA-101D" [not CA-101]. So it was the CA101D that charged my E72 and that I replaced with a plain, no-name, "Micro-USB B to USB A" cable. Sorry for any confusion caused.

Well, USB is a standard. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Serial_Bus
But manufacturers are allowed to remove the power pins and still call it USB. This is to prevent damage to the PC port if the device pulls to much current - but this is not a issue with phones (well most of them).
So Nokia is just artificially creating a market for separate charger and data cables.

Blackberry Curve 9300 usb data and charging cable

So there IS a reason to live in Joburg - lower shipping costs. :p

I lent one of my cables to a colleague with a Blackberry Curve 9300. It worked perfectly for that phone too and I ordered two more for him (in order to get my cable back!)
