Bought one last week for the E90 , used it a few times , today whilst charging the E90 I see smoke coming from the charger , so I take it out of cig lighter socket (this one has a green pilot light to indicate that its active)

Well the cigarette lighter works and glows nicely but the charger is stuffed , phone is okay and charging on Eskom power.

Anyone had an issue like this where charger goes kaboom.

Cost all of R250 by Cellucity in Canal Walk , wonder if I can take it back or must I buy another one or is there some other method of getting another charger for mahala , car still functions normally.

Sounds like a generic charger and I don't recommend these on the newer Nokia handsets as you've noticed they can't supply the required current!

If you paid R250 then you got mugged! Here I sell generic car saver/chargers at R30 and genuine original Nokia DC-4 at R110. Did you get a free handset included in the R250 deal? :)

Generic (small plug) chargers seem OK for 6101/3 and 6111 but anything else use only original Nokia chargers!

My bad , price was R199 , was thinking of something else when I posted.
I got a new unit and no hassles from Cellucity Canal Walk in doing a swopout , they said its the 1st time they've had one smoke itself.
Charger is in Nokia packaging , has all the required serial and model numbers and what not and it for all intents and purposes seems to be the real deal.
