Nokia drops software plans in order to survive

Reminds me of a riddle that goes something like this:
'A naked man is found in the desert with no tracks anywhere and only a broken matchstick in his hands. What happened'?

The answer is that he was in a hot air balloon with a group of people and it started to go down. So one by one they shed everything in the balloon, then their clothing, then there was nothing left to discard. So they drew matches to see who must leave the balloon.
 
I seriously do not get why Nokia will not use Android. It will boost their sales a bit, Nokia is nice phones, but they still use Symbian and Windows Mobile. Such a pity. I hope those people who broke away from Nokia, and said they were making their own brand phone uses Android.

I always wonder if a CEO appointed from any other company would have resulted in a MS + Nokia arrangement? I can't help but think "no". RIM + Nokia would have made more sense imo (Nokia with BIS and BBM).
 
Nokia is now solely dependent on Microsoft for their future.

Not a good place to be.

One still wonders how a company, that was worth 300bn Euros at one stage, got into such a mess....

Ask Motorola. Ask HTC. Ask LG. They're all taking major pain while Samsung eats their Android lunch. Nokia's Windows Phone sales are doubling each quarter (1mil, 2mil, and last quarter, 4mil devices).

"like everybody else" should answer your own question.

I may be wrong...but marketing might play a big role also. This is where I think Motorola...and more specific...Motorola South Africa had a epic fail. Motorola RAZR a great device....but its sales as far as I can tell is really poor. You can have a fantastic device with great build quality ... but if you dont create awareness and hype...it wont do well.

Marketing plays a role, but when you're basically selling the same product in a different box (which is really what all the device makers' Android phones are), it makes it muuuuuch more difficult, if not impossible.

I predict that HTC will give Win8 more attention, now that they've seen how successful Nokia were with it. If they popped WP8 on One X hardware, that would be REALLY interesting.

The average consumer probably uses the name "windows mobile" interchangeably with "windows phone" when referring to a phone that has windows on it, without being aware of any differences between the two. I'm assuming that's what ngadao08 did as well.

Yeah I cant wait for seriously powerfull windows phone 8 hardware to be released...although I somehow feel that amoled suits windows phone better than IPS displays due to the deep blacks and windows phone menu's have alot of black.
