I need some advice on which of the following phones I should get. Nokia E61 and Blackberry 8700. Which other phones would fall in the same category? I dont know any1 with either of the 2 phones, so need some hands-on advice.

I have an E61 and for me the answer seems obvious.

E61: Has all the mail features of the blackberry with a better operating system, 3G, more software support and the ability to link it to devices like GPS recievers.

Just seems like the Blackberry on Steroids :D

What was the last Blackberry you used? Unless you've used both how are you able to make a comparative analysis?

E61 has MOST of the mail functions in a BIS setup - a BES setup is another story.

In a choice between any 2 (or more) devices, the ultimate question is what do you want to do with it.

Once you've answered that question and narrowed the choice of devices down to those that are capable, then you look at ease of use, reliability, etc, etc.

If you're needing it for a BES environment then a RIM device is the only way to go. If you're using it in a BIS setup, then pick your poison :D

BIS? BES environment?

RIM Device?

Please could you explain?:D

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BlackBerry

Research In Motion (RIM) is the company that makes the BlackBerry handset and solutions.

BES and BIS are the enterprise and individual grade solutions than the BB can make uses of. The major difference is that the BES has a BlackBerry server within the company and allows for the integration of both mail/pim and data solutions as well as managability and security. The BIS solution would be used by an individual who just wants mobile push email, there is no server and the integration is done at the RIM NOC off of a platform dedicated to individual users.

Some individuals do make use of the BIS POP3/IMAP integration to link their business email to this

Also, BIS is only wireless wrt email, PIM content is via a USB cable. With BES, everything is wireless, starting with activation and encompassing everything short of OS reload (altho if memory serves me correct, they're working on it).

I definatley think the E61 is better, although watch out for the BB Pearl!

Why do you feel the Pearl would be better?
If you comparing the Pearl and E61, then form factor would not be an issue so I'm guessing features?

The major difference between Pearl and Electron is the pearl vs the wheel, camera and removable media. Yes there are more, but those are what most people will see. All other differences are pretty much a result of OS 4.2 vs OS 4.1.

Again ....
I'm assuming we're talking a BIS environment here
