Hi guys
Also been getting false phone is up to date statuses, I found this nifty method of updating my Lumia needs a bit of techie know how but it worked like a charm. Basically create the bat file in your C:/Users/yourpcname folder, when you run CMD it opens to this folder anyway so all you have to do is execute the file. Instructions below.
1) Connect your phone and let Zune run, then go to Phone>Settings>Update
2) Check the timing, try it click any option after clicking update
3) Mine takes 5 secs before Zune shows "your phone is up to date"
4) Once you get the timing right, deduct 1 sec (EX: 5 secs-1 sec = 4 secs[this should be your trick time])
5) Now, open command prompt (search "cmd")
6) Go to "my computer" then "C:" then "users" then "yourpcname folder"
7) Open notepad, then type this exactly what you see here
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
8) Save the file as "newip.bat", save it in C:/Users/yourpcname folder
9) Go to command prompt, make sure you are on the right directory
it should show C:/>users/"yourpcname": *** your pc name is the name of the folder you open in C:/users/**
10) Type newip.bat in command prompt but dont hit enter yet
11) Once you got the timing right, lets say about 5 secs Zune will say your software is up to date, when you are in the 4secs trick time, hit enter after typing newip.bat in command prompt.
12) If you did it right, it will show you "an update is available", there are might be 3 update, so you have to do this trick 3 times.
13) Enjoy you windows phone 7.8!!
Went through about 4 updates till I got the final update worked much better than the disconnect reconnect method. It didn't work so well when I had a network cable plugged in and wireless on, it kept checking wireless and LAN when I ran the bat file and timed out the update, so just use wireless.
