Nokia n7 Imei issue with mtn

Hi guys,

I hope you can give me some feedback with this. My mother recently took out a contract with mtn for a Nokia C7. It was stolen from her in a shopping centre 3 days afterwards.

On the same day we went to mtn and suspended the sim so no new phone calls could be made and we wanted to blacklist the phone. We phoned 808 and gave the representative the Imei number which was located in 2 places on the original box. The lady then told me that that IMEI number resolves to a motorola v60 and not a nokia c7. We spoke to 10 different mtn represenatives and they all gave us another answer. We then went back to the mtn shop and told the lady this and she organized some forms 2 days later and asked us to sign it. Is this not reason enough to break the contract as imei errors could lead to a potential stolen nokia c7 being sold to my mother in the first place??

Is it at all possible that mtn have made an error in data capturing there handsets and assigned our imei number to a motorolla??

Also we tried to find out if any other sim was inserted into that phone on the day of the theft and the respresentative told us that a prepaid sim card was inserted but she can not tell us the exact time nor network provider of the sim...or is she just talking k@k?

apparantly the police can also track phones but they just dont want to,so what is the point of RICA and GPS in phones nowadays???

IMEI are basically the phone's id, each time you log on, your phone sends its id to the network, as part of the authentication process, it would be during this process, that a phone would do the " limited service" thing, if the handset has been listed as black. By using your cell number, your network provider would be able to see in what handset your sim active, reverse search could also be done....using a IMEI number to see what sims have been active in the handset. There is no manual inputs of IMEI as the network keeps a record of each logon event....-to be able to access logon, what area, what sim, what number info, you need to get the police involve, as network provider's risk management only play ball when, requested through proper channels, that have the correct paperwork in hand.

u can identify yourself via the imei at least the company that makes the phone
