I have a Nokia n73 which my girl now uses and the speaker is very soft on its max volume and battles to hear the other party on the phone.

Is this easy to replace oneself and where could i get a new speaker??

The N73 is not a very good phone - rather than waste effort/time/money on it you should look for something else. The newer N-series phones are a lot better.

The N73 is one of the best/most popular phones in the last few years, but I would say it is time to move on, unless you can get it fixed under a warranty or something.

The first thing to check is that the earpiece hole and gauze is not obstructed by dust or other contaminant!

The speaker costs around R12 trade price.

Fitting involves removing the front of the phone.

Guide here: http://www.formymobile.co.uk/n73disassembly.php

Then unplug and set aside the LCD & unplug Keypad and video calling camera...

Finally remove the cast alloy frame by unscrewing the T6 Torq screw.

The oblong speaker is mounted on the rear of the alloy frame!

Refit in reverse order!

Most independent dealers who do repairs will sell you a speaker but don't pay more than R30 or you are being ripped off. If I fit one of these I usually charge R60 for the complete job. Special discounts however for good looking blondes! :)
