so is no one disturbed by the fact that both of these phones have non removable batteries, so if the phone freezes, you cant just remove the battery and re-boot, you actually will have to make a trip to your nearest vodacom or MTN repair centre.....

and we all know how often nokias can freeze up.

apparently holding down the power button for a few seconds will hard reboot the phone if it freezes.

lol there are times when a phone freezes up so badly that even the power button doesnt work.

and would you really want to lose all your info and settings just coz your phone freezed up?

u know the 'reset' button on your PC? always switches off the PC no matter how bad its stuck (hung just seems to be the wrong word :) ), well the menu button on the N8 works in the same way, or you could do this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voHj0kvvdKQ

well listening to the guy in your video here, he actually said that the phone froze and he could not power it off with the power button and had to revert to manually removing the battery and in so doing, you void your warranty.

are you willing to take that risk?

i definitelly will not be taking that chance.

so dont , get some other phone. :)
ive been following the discussion on GSM Arena forum for the N8 for some time & lots of people complain about lots of things, but completely freezing where u HAVE to remove th ephone is not one of them, yet

Yeah yeah you've said that, but some people clearly do not know what a hard reset is. The N8 is one of the first nokias to use the On/Off button as a hard reset. What exactly happen is the same as removing the battery. A small heat sensitive conductor will heat up while the button is kept in and it will expand. If it is about 0.5mm longer then usual it pushes away/open the positive contact from the battery. You have to keep the button pressed for 10 or so seconds though, until it heats up and the expansion does its trick. I hope this helps.

I thought the green way of doing things included the "green" disposal of the cell-phone battery, surely this is a step away form that goal?

From the user manual, under the section "If your device stops responding":
Reboot your device. Press and hold (i) for about 8 seconds. The device vibrates three times and switches off. To switch your device on again, press (i)

(i) -> power button

I think that Nokia considered this already and built the failsafe into the power button :)

For interest sake. What were they complaining about? Thinking of getting myself a N8. The guy who made this website seems like he never used a Nokia before so can't go with his compains @ n8fail.tumblr.com/

Most complaints should be taken with a pinch of salt on GSM Arean. im sure alot of people complaining have not even used the phone. Some of the most repeated complaints are :
phone reboots often - (a fix for this is to only install apps from Ovi Store)
poor camera quality - some guys did not take off the plastic from the lens first!
poor browser
slow os.

Most complaints eventally comes down to ignorance, or Nokia haters & iphone/android lovers trying to start problems. One person complained that the battery lasts only 20 minutes & stuff like that.

But even amongst all that, nobody complained that the phone was stuck & the battery had to be removed.

ave a read : http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_n8-reviews-3252.php

I suppose you could always wait until the battery runs out of power if it gets stuck and the power button does nothing.
