I received my Nokia N8 Last week, and I am unable to send sms's. I have contacted the call centre a few time already and they only reset my sim number. My phone picks up the following message centre number (+27829129). I have deleted this and entered the correct message centre number (+27831000002) given to me me by the call center. It works for a while and then after a while my phone picks up the +27829129 message centre number and defualts to it again and then I am unable to send sms's. I even set the defualt to the mtn message center number but it still does not work.

I tried the sim in another phone....still the same.

Ps: This was an upgrade I did from a data contract.

Can anybody please assist

the +27829129 is Vodacom's secondary message centre number. Most of the smartphones now days update their settings according to the which network they have logged onto, if your phone keeps installing the Vodacom settings it could be:

a) you have an N8 which has Vodacom optimized software on it (did you get the phone from an MTN outlet or Vodacom one?)
b) software problem on the phone

you said you have tried the sim in another phone and it still defaults to the Vodacom one?

did you port to MTN from Vodacom?

Either way try take it to a Nokia Care centre and have the software reflashed to the "vanilla" or standard software

I got the phone fro MTN Direct and I did not port from vodacom. This contract we had for the last two years on a data contract and we migrated to a talk package. Never had this problem on the data package.

replace the sim msge centre number with the mtn one,i gues you once inserted a voda sim in your phone,i'm not sure but i noticed voda sims always import their setting to phones as default, their settings will irritate you even after you replaced the voda sim

I have the same problem.

There was never a Vodacom sim card in my N8 only the MTN sim but I suspect the problem lies with the sim card itself. I had the sim in my old phone but put a new Vodacom sim in the old phone to do a sim swap on vodacom pre-paid (for my data) and that vodacom sim card I suspect "invected" my phone and then my MTN sim card...

Same problem here with my E71... Any working solution would be great as I have already tried a bunch of things and have not found a solution. I would like to try and avoid replacing my sim.

Same here on my 5800XM

Could be an MTN problem i think??

Did anyone find a solution to this issue? My 5800 (MTN) has been doing the same since late December and it's driving me insane. Every reboot of the phone I have to delete the Voda Message Centre?

this bug got me too, with the nokia software developers reportedly unhappy with the merger between nokia and microsoft,we are on our own.

mine was fine on vodacom, moved to mtn and cant send smsiz , could initially, but not anymore

factory reset my phone and the exact same thing, it sends the sms but they are never recieved, put the sim in other phone, it sends and recieves, checked message centre nr, everything, N8 is now a brick, as i mostly message

You're on MTN Right? Did the same with me. Use this message Center: +27831000113

I hope it works for you. The default MTN one doesn't, I got this one from a Call Center agent in December ;)

ive got that in already still nothing, its eating the pay as you go , and the sms says sent but they never arrive, im now out of credit and if i try send it doesnt say unable to send it still ends up in sent box

Same happens with me, but if I have airtime it definitely does go through. The default MTN one doesn't work for me at all.

my phone must be hacked and they are getting all the sms credit?, ditching mtn and taking phone in

delete the vodacom message centre number and you will be able to send messages then go and have a simswop done and that will sort out your problem
