Hi,

I've had a Nokia n8 for about a month now. It reboots itself often (Every couple of hours). Usually when:

1. It is connected to Ovi with USB.
2. Manipulating the phone's contacts.
3. Using Ovi Music syncing songs to the phone.

Occasionally (Couple of times a day) it would restart randomly when it is doing nothing.

I've done a Factory reset. Thought it might be Swype or SPB Shell.

Is this enough grounds to take it back to VC for a swop out? I believe the phone's hardware is messed up.

They will say that hardware does not cause rebootig, software does. They will offer to reload the software.

I believe that is exactly what they will say. And how do I show the reboots to them if it happens randomly? Maybe Symbian keeps log of restarts ect like all other operating systems I know of....

1. get a gmail/google apps account and the built in exchange support to keep your contacts synchronised rather.
2. don't use ovi music to sync songs, rather use windows media player

After I reset to factory defaults I've not setup e-mail again. It frequently rebooted when I used e-mail. I don't think it is Ovi or Ovi Music rather the USB connection. I can see it losing connection every now and then as it reboots and Windows reconnects to the phone.

It might be looking for a Windows Phone 7 bootloader. :p
:D

Daniedj, see whether someone can change your product code to the generic South African one. Wouldn't be the first time that Vodafone's crippled firmware causes trouble.

I may or may not have already tried that :-)

So it only happens when your N8 is connected to your PC via USB when it happens??

have you tried it on another pc?

its faulty hardware and most probably crap OS ... my 5800 did the exact same thing till it literally came to the point where the phone will only stay on if there is no simcard in the phone so that no connection of any sort is active ... take it back and ask for a replacement ... software update or reinstall will "maybe" fix the issue for a week or so then the problem will come back ...

reading this makes me really sure of NEVER taking a nokia with symbian 6v5 OS again ...

I'll check if the rebooting becomes worse. Left NokiaRSA a message for advice. Will see what the reply is and taking it from there.
