Nokia N95 firmware Disappointment

So, here I am busy browsing Nokia website to see what the latest firmware version is out for my phone

To my discovery I see version 30.0.0.15 is out, and I cannot upgrade to the latest version as I have version 20.0.0.15, and I am once again disappointed - I use to have a N95 Vodafone branded.

To afraid to hack into my Nokia N95, this is like the 3 swop handset

Dude just change your product code to the generic one with NSS, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. Regarding the warranty, they don't even worry about the product code, I'm talking from personal experience. Anyway you can change the product code bact to the Vodafone one after you've updated the firmware.

I am always weary of messing with things like firmware... my thoughts are that they limit firmware upgrades to particular regions for a reason. I know MTN and Vodacom are also quite strict on testing phones before they are released on the market, so not sure this is why the firmware takes a while to get released here.

Further to this when you mention some of the latest upgrades, this is probably another reason it is only released in regions. I have a newer Nokia, the N82, and I can tell you that it also does not have "maps complete with satellite images and traffic information". This service is not available in SA at all as far as I am aware?

Satellite images can be seen via Google maps or if you want weather images then through Handy Weather.... use Rotate Me for screen rotation....

If you really want the latest firmware take you phone back to your ISP and ask them... I sent my N95 in for repairs, when I had it, and it came back with the latest firmware, even though the websites said it was not available for our region!

Just like neoassasin said. You can change the product code, update the firmware and change the product code back to the one for your phone.

It's the first thing I do with all my Nokias when I get them. Why use only the options that MTN or Vodacom wants you to use if you can use all the options the phone is suppose to have?

The latest firmware always have some nice improvements.
