Nokia N95 - shipping Q1 2007

My phone's had it's fair share of crashes, but I haven't experienced people on the other end being unable to hear me. I have seen this mentioned before, apparently switching to speakerphone and back also fixes it.

There is a new firmware version out, 11.0.026, it's available from the NSU site for other regions, but not yet for South African phones.

Would it be possible to upgrade the firmware if I just select other region? I have the nokia updater utility...

You actually need to change the product code on your phone, then flash the firmware, then change the product code back.
The Nokia Blog describe the procedure as being similar to changing an N73 to an N73 Music Edition.

MTN Southdowns just told me the N95 has been pulled back by Nokia due to software problem and is not currently available...

MtnUser - welcome to the wait :p

There are a few stories / conspiracy theories going around at the moment:

1. Someone left a few crates of phones on the dock in Finland and MTN is using this story (the software issues) as a cover

2. There is indeed a problem with the N95 - but strangely those who got in the first round seem to be quite happy with it - must be a 2nd batch problem specifically aimed at the SA market :p

3. There is just not enough stock to go around and ill-informed people are grappling for something to tell their customers

4. All of the above + the rumour about it being such a great phone, some aliens have come and snatched up all the available handsets, because they really need the GPS functionality on Mars to track down those pesky Rovers running amok and ruining the landscape :p :) ;)

- good luck getting one is all I can say.

I've actually seen a green guy holding an N95 ... but he claimed he was just unwell ...

lol Secret - it is usually the rest of us that are green (with envy) when seeing someone holding a N95 ;)

I wouldn't be surprised about this, after all, not so many people are willing to get it on Voda cause its too damn expensive compared to the R1000 on MTN's Procall 120,

and its branded with that k@k called v0dafone ... wtf extra does vodafone offer us here in SA??? .... instead of just being a pain and messing up phone software

WTF software problems too, post the link please.

one thing about the gps?

whats the point of having "it" when all our street names areas are being changed?

Another dodgy N95

I would really like to know what the problem is with their phones. Mine is still running with no problems.

I've just made it through the porting gauntlet (with a few wounds) and finally got my N95 after amazingly only a one week wait (from MTNSP). I have to agree that the current firmware is a bit erratic – but I suppose that’s the price to pay for being at the bleeding edge of technology! My only decision is now: do I live with the frustrating (read crippling) niggles until the new firmware “hits our shores” or do I take it back as an OBF as twice today (first day of use) I’ve had to reboot, sorry restart, after the phone said something along the lines of “Error initialising phone. Contact your supplier”. And now the directional cursor won’t scroll left/right/up/down the shortcut icons – but it worked 5miniutes ago - and sometimes I can't scroll around the menu screen - and then sometimes I can't select an icon - and... - hmmm. I think it’s an Out The Box Failure this one. And now I won’t have it for the weekend!
