Nokia N95 @ Vodacom??

Need help ... got a topup business contract and my credit is being eaten away ... topped yesterday with R315 ... today its at R178 ... WTF? ... anyone having problems like this with their N95? Got the worldmate program installed, automatic mail retrieval headers only and one web feed from google also text only that updates once a day ....

Is this by any chance on MTN?

That sucks,I hope you get some answers. JK8 it could be a possibility but not that much.

It will depend on the amount of updates he's getting plus calls and sms's... also the settings he's using to retrieve them, Nokios have another bad thing about them, for all types of data you can specify certain internet settings, so maybe one of them is on CSD.

Piesang where art thou, these ppl need ur help... credit being eaten away by the evil N95 :o

Maybe theres some sort of automatic map downloading thats loading the world...

Set all your access points settings to "Always ask". That way your N95 will not make a connection without you knowing about it.

And go to -> Settings -> Connection -> Packet Data -> At Packet Data Connection choose "When needed". Not "When available".

If you leave your data connection on to download News etc.. from the server automatically then you are going to get a huge bill. Remember, the N95 has got 3G/HSDPA. With a normal GPRS enabled phone data downloads go much slower.

:D :D

That's a good one. Remember to close your apps when you don't use it. If you dont need the maps software, close the application.

I've changed my maps programs' access point to my Wireless Lan. That way it won't eat my data when I run the app.

phoned up voda ... its all data downloads .. one session was 30 megs at R59 at 3PM yesterday (i was at the mall during this time) two other sessions at R29 and R20 ... wtf???? ... can this phone really be downlaoding so much data in the background???? ... the auto email retrievals were every 30min, but that was like 1c or 10c per .. so that was ok... what could the phone be downloading????

What apps do you have installed?

Virus scanners, etc...

Worldmate, Xsound, one web feed from Google news set to text only ... email auto retreival at 30 min intervals text headers only ... 30 meg in just one session is rediculous ...

You can say that again.

Does Worldmate use your data connection at all? Update of time, weather, currencies, etc...

One in the moring at 7AM for weather for just joburg (find it cool for the phone to tell you what the weather is)... i did update currency last night once... but can this all account for 30meg ????

I can't see how it could add up to 30MB.

Is your N95's Packet Data set to "When Needed" or "When Available"?

I changed that now ... it was set to "when available" by default

Yes, mine was also set to "when available" when I got the phone. What happens then as long as your N95 "see" a data connection, GPRS/EDGE/3G/HSDPA, it will be connected to the data network.

So who knows what it will do in the background. By setting it to "When needed" it will only use the Data connection when you want it to.

Hopefully this was the problem.

i hope so ... lucky its a top contract so when the airtime dries up it cant get carried away and run my bill to R3000 ... (looking at the R100 a day it appears to be using)

Update us to whether the problem was solved or not...

Piesang... idea... why dont you put up a "to-do" list when someone gets an N95...

I'm talking about all the intimate details as well :)
Heres an example:

1. Take out N95 box from MTN Packet
2. Put N95 box on table
3. Admire box
4. Open box with set of hands
5. Unpack N95 first, then accessories
6. etc etc etc

think this is possible :p
