Nokia PC Suite Problem

Hey guys

I had the PC Suite running fine, connecting and disconnecting from the Internet with my N73. But for some reason it couldn't pick up the connection so I uninstalled and re-installed it. It worked fine but that problem came back again and I repeated the process.

But this time the pc suite didn't re-install :( I insert the CD, let it autorun, click only the PC Suite, i don't need all that other stuff and install. It goes about a quarter way through and then this comes up.

It goes to windows installer...then it comes up with the error dialog box
"The Windows installer could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance"

Well I'm not in safe mode and I was hoping you guys are my support personnel :) If I don't get this sorted out by the weekend I'm re-installing windows and everything else which I really don't want to do.

Please help
 
Boot into safe mode and see if it is fully uninstalled from control panel - reboot normally and try and reinstall. I remember seeing an updated version on the Nokia site (used it for my N80) - maybe try that version...

Thanks man, googling it slipped my mind :D I found a program JV16 something to clean the registry. I'll try it out when i get home and also your method howardb. Hope I don't have to make another post :(
 
Well that JV tool did remove some msi files but other than that little else. The mighty Nokia PC Suite Cleanup will not install :mad:

"Initialization error" What on earth? Downloaded from the Nokia site, what could be wrong. Now I cant even use the phone to get fast internet cos there's no pc suite and I'll have to rely on dial-up which gets me no where slowly :( Where's the crying smiley I need to use it.
 
Why dont you search for an alternate to the nokia PC suite. There are others out there.

Hhmm...yeah I see what you're saying bekdik. But the jpegs on my pcs looked quite high detail. Anyway I'll have to re-upload when i get back home.

Ok home and fixed the those screenshots. They a bit blurry I reduced clarity for size, I'm still on my dial up here not using my cell because of this damn pc suite.

ever thought its a problem with your windows.. if both have installation and removal problems....
 
From the screens you posted, it looks like your Windows Installer service has stopped running - try the following:
click on START, RUN - type in SERVICES.MSC and click OK
Scroll down to windows installer - if its running, click on stop the service, then click on start the service. If it was already stopped, click on start the service.
Try installing PC Suite again.
 
I also have a stand-alone copy of the latest Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2) - let me know if you need this to try...

You sir are a legend. I tried both methods and nothing seemed to work. I tried it about 5 times. Then I got so annoyed I started un-installing stuff, preparing to re-install windows when I decided to try installing the pc suite again, and it worked!!! :D

Thanks again howardb, btw I dont know why but now the phone is connecting to the net at a hundred odd Kb/s and not the 460 Kb/s it used to. Using 3g so not sure, but I'll check it up.
