Back in the day, everyone had a VCR. Then DVD's and whatnot came out and we moved to Digital Recorders to DVD with built in PVR's. Most of us naturally decided to not write to disk but use just the PVR because it was just awesome.

My problem - I cannot find a non DSTV PVR anymore.
My folks for instance had an LG PVR and once that one died they then managed to get a Sony PVR. But to replace the Sony once it dies without buying into multichoice crap is where I scratch my head - because I cannot find a PVR in SA anymore.

Anyone know as to why or where we could get them?

install the apk from REDBOXTV.XYZ in addition to MX player on any android phone or andoid tv box.
You can also run this on Windows 10 by installing emulator BlueStacks or something similar and cast it to your smart TV from laptop.

This can only be done on Android. All sports channels are available for free. no DSTV ever needed
Thanks for the info. I mean more of a traditional PVR that can be connected directly to the Telly like they currently have. I want to know why I cannot find that anymore - only DSTV's one
